Wow that's definitely different. Thanks very helpfultimmyd wrote:The exam is weird. 75 true false questions and I think 45 multiple choice. On the t/f, you gain a point for a correct answer while losing one for an incorrect answer. You neither gain not lose by not answering. MC is traditional. I got the highest a in course but not an a+. What worked for me was writing down literally everything he said and doing all the readings. I also supplemented with corporations e and e and the partnership e and e though I prolly would have done as well without the supps...he does a really good job of explaining tough concepts.

Between top 15% and top 20%, but closer to 20%

What Ox said, and really high enough to where it probably isn't an issue for good outcomes unless you want some super preftigious clerkship.

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
At the end of 2L last year, our class numbers looked like this: Top 25% 3.64, Top 50% 3.40. As I understand it, Order of the Coif (10%) often comes in around 3.80-3.81 and High Honors (top 5%) is around 3.87-3.88.timmyd wrote:anyone have any idea where 3.XX would place one in the class going into last semester?

Thanks, y'all. That's about what I figured. I'm trying to cop that coif. I think its mathematically possible assuming 3.8ish stays the cut-off, so I'm in the unenviable position of having a reason to gun last semester of 3L.

Fair enough. I guess my point was that I'm in a gpa range where theres still something to gain or lose. Below median at this point has no real reason to really care too much about gpa in my opinion. I have a fed dist flyover clerkship for next year but no employment lined up after that so to a certain degree I am still very worried about employment...just like the kids below median. Your point, however, is well taken.

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
Posted this in the C/O 2018 thread, but figured I might get some good insight here.
Best time to start looking for apt?
Best areas to live? (Hyde Park is recommended quite often, but is it the best value? is farther out better? areas to definitely avoid?)
Anything outside of the obvious 0Ls should take into account?

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
I think Hyde Park is ideal for a 1L. Not "cheap" but not terribly expensive, either. If you could afford to live downtown, that'd be great, but I think 2l or 3l would be a better time to do that.
Even if you're looking at Hyde Park you're going to be able to find good options at really any point. no particular rush, IMO.
I have a lease available for Hyde Park, personally, too. Feel free to PM if interested.

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
I am still trying to figure out my courses for early registration. Do any upperclassmen have any thoughts on any of the following class/professors?
Business association - with either Ganor or Hu
Corporate governance - Cunningham
Con Law II Civil Liberties - Abramson
Mediation - Jury
Negotiation - any of Fox, Jury, Schless (any preferences?)
Alternative investments - Young
Also any recommendations of classes you took and enjoyed would be helpful

Heard good things about Hu. That's too early in the morning though. I'd wait for Sokolow to teach it.ojala wrote:I am still trying to figure out my courses for early registration. Do any upperclassmen have any thoughts on any of the following class/professors?

Corp Gov is lolworthy and easy. Bid it first.
Heard people complain about Negotiation with Schless and some took it P/F but that's about all I know.
PR with Dzienkowski and Corp Gov are the only MUST TAKES this semester IMO.

Sokolow for BA is a must. Best teacher I've ever had. I'm taking Hu now in securities regulation and its not even close in my opinion in terms of effectiveness.

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone has an outline for John Golden's patent law class? I checked the last few pages of this thread and didn't see anyone asking for it. He's visiting at HLS so obviously there aren't any in the HLS banks.
Thanks in advance

I'm thinking about taking Wickelgren for Antitrust. Did anyone take his course before? Have an outline/syllabus per chance...?

Is there any way to determine the chancellor's gpa for one's class? Not for my own purposes (obviously not a chancellor) but for making some assumptions about coif cutoff?

Here is the grade distribution, so you can see which classes gave out the best grades. As for "easy" classes, I'm just a lowly rising 2L so I'll wait for someone else to chime in with an anecdote or two.

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
Just so this information is saved for posterity, as it has been taken down from the NALP website, the class of 2013 had the following GPA cutoffs at graduation:
• 10% = 3.81
• 30% = 3.58
• 10% = 3.81
• 30% = 3.58
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
