Is there any specific format to use, or just general resume style? I know some schools have stricter guidelines but I haven't seen any for UChi?

You can probably email OCS if you want to be a gunner. They can probably give you some examples. You get a handbook once you get to school with them. Just keep it simple and consistent formatting. I just have:

You have all successfully convinced me that 0L prep is just the worst. But does anybody have strong feelings one way or the other about Getting To Maybe? I don't mind spending the time reading it, but I would obviously prefer to pass if it isn't all that helpful.

Also, I just now read the IT memorandum that they sent us about a month ago. I have an Intel i5 processor and I got the impression that I am on the low end of things in terms of computer specs. They recommended an i7. Am I good here?

I read about three pages of GTM, other people seem to like it though.

I probably read 60 pages of GTM, which in reality was like reading the first 3 pages 20 times, so good on Beep for figuring that out 95% quicker than I did. I don't think it helped me much outside of instilling the idea that there's no right answer, it's good to argue both sides, etc.

Everyone who has commented on this so far is someone who is definitely worth paying attention to, also.

i5 is fine. I mostly worked on my desktop which was pretty overkill for lawl school. When I did use a laptop it was an i5. Also not all i7 are better than i5, depends on clock speed, chipset, etc. I wouldn't worry about it unless your computer is running noticeably slowly.

I also read like nothing of it, felt it was pretty meh, and never went back.

I'm seconding all the skepticism about GTM, as well as the support for resume prep before school starts. Another thing I'd suggest if you're really hurting for something to do is to poke around and see which firms have formal 1L SA programs (mostly, but by no means entirely, these are diversity related), and which firms have hired more than one 1L in the last year.* Chambers Associate is good for the latter, the LCLD's website is good (but not exhaustive) for the former. I made a list of these firms and when it came to December 1 it was much easier to just go straight to their websites, find contact info to paste into my cover letters (which I also prepared before school started because, let's face it, you've got nothing new to add after one quarter) and send those apps out asap. Although clearly the time saved for studying didn't do me much good that quarter.

*If a firm hired like 65 2Ls but only one 1L over all its offices, and it doesn't have a formal diversity program, that 1L likely *was* a special snowflake.

The information about 1L hiring is also super easy to get off of NALP. You can then create a separate report with recruiter contact information by clicking the mail merge button at the top. You don't need to bid a clinic #1 to get it (generally).

I think federal defense always fills up really fast. Some years corporate lab goes very quickly. But yes, most have plenty of open seats.

If you have the budget you should consider the macbook air. That is still the market leader for weight and battery life. None of the windows computers come close

If you have a Windows system at home, what worked well for me for a bit was an iPad with a keyboard cover, because I did everything in OneNote. I don't think Macbooks have a full version of OneNote available yet, but there's an official iOS app for it. So I'd put anything I needed for class in OneNote at home, then be able to access it in class on the iPad + take notes as necessary, and it was really lightweight to bring.
