Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Thank you goldeneye, very helpful suggestion. Any other general advice for someone from out of state interested in putting down roots in STL after graduation? Also what kind of pay range are you talking about for those mid-size to small law that median students end up landing?goldeneye wrote:Probably looking at mid-size to small firm. Biglaw generally dips to about top 1/3. Being in StL, definitely join the Missouri Bar Association for law students and the like and begin to network since St. Louis really is a tight knit place.LET'S GET IT wrote:Sorry to change the subject but I was wondering where most people that hoover around median end up employment wise? Especially those that want to stay in STL after graduation? Thanks.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Depends on which state you're coming from.
It's actually a fairly large hurdle convincing St. Louis employers that you intend to stay in St. Louis if you go to WUSTL. If you're from like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Indiana, southern Illinois, etc., you'll have a lot better luck. If you're from California, New York, Chicago, or any place that gives people in St. Louis firms an inferiority complex, it's actually going to be very difficult.
Too many people who strike out at OCI have used STL firms to get a year or two of experience, and then have bailed for bigger cities. If you really want to convince employers you want to stay, get married to a St. Louis girl, buy a house, etc. It takes something major.

I am from one of the states you mentioned and have no interest in going to NYC/Cali or coming back to where I'm from. Already married so marrying the STL girl is kind of out. lol. We honestly do want to stay there, I am just worried about convincing potential employers of that.JCougar wrote:Depends on which state you're coming from.

What is she going to do while you're in law school? If you can have her get a career-type job there, that would be a big plus. "My wife has a permanent job here and I don't want to move back to flyover country" is probably sufficient, I would think. Say that you are pretty close to closing on a house or something, too. "We absolutely love this charming, historic neighborhood." There actually are a lot of charming, historic St. Louis neighborhoods. Also, try not to intern in like Chicago or Washington, DC your first summer. Try to find something in STL.LET'S GET IT wrote:I am from one of the states you mentioned and have no interest in going to NYC/Cali or coming back to where I'm from. Has E gotten their LP grades back? Is Smith the only 1L prof that hasn't posted grades?

No Dorothy hasn't even finished grading the memos.
Heard a rumor that Smith turned in her grades and they are with the registrar.

But he'd never come to class drunk. Hungover, maybe, but not drunk.

Nah, he'd never come to class drunk. He's just slow at getting stuff back. I think he also does something on the judicial board which takes up some of his time.cusenation wrote:Is dorothy that weird instructor that came to class drunk or somethingCellar-door wrote:HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.cusenation wrote:Has E gotten their LP grades back? Even worse than the others though.
Specifically, that she wants you to go in the order of her grading outline to receive credit...
And she takes away points if you go too far in the discussion of an issue. Only 1L Prof I had that did that.

Again, welcome to law school.sublime wrote:Konig gave out TWO 100's. What the fuck man.
And although I really like him, Greenfield didn't have to grade to .1 off of the minimum mean (.5 from the maximum). And now I have Flagg.
Being in section B is bullshit.

Whoa, I saw a 2.5 How is that even possible? I mean they only grade for those who show up, and I'm guessing if you said anything, you'd get at least a 2.56. 2.5 Must've been someone just typed
"Fuck you I hate law school, I'm outta here" And hit submit. But even there, I'd assume they'd get at least a 2.62 for that.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Since I know some people knew they were dropping out before taking their exams in my first Semester, I assumed they wouldn't torture themselves by taking the exams, and we didn't have any anomaly grades like you guys, therefore they just took them out all together.
Either way, I can't imagine they'd add a no-show for the principle of it.
