Conventional wisdom is that international law isn't really a thing. But if you're talking about large firm work you're much better off at a place like Columbia than at UT because large firm placement will be so much better. UT is a good school and has pretty good big law placement but its much more Texas-centric than you probably realize.MtnGinger wrote:I want to do it because of my career goals. I'm interested in doing international law, I will have undergrad degrees in both accounting and finance because my ultimate goal is working abroad for a large international company. Columbia has a 3 yr JD LLM in london where you can take the bar in both countries. But I hate NEw York I would much rather spend my time in the south and preferably Texas if I know I can get the international experience I need.

But to piggy back off this, from what I know, I agree that this international law isn't a thing. What your goals sound more like is you are interested in working in an international office, which is different from what international law is. The one person I know doing "int'l law" mostly helps rich people migrate to America despite criminal records.
Additionally, while those are nice goals, I don't think a regional school like UT is going to be your best bet. While I feel the UT brand is strong it is primarily regional. You'd be fighting super hard to get those jobs (probably top 5-10% of your class) here whereas at schools such as Columbia or NYU you will probably have a better chance at going biglaw -> in house at a company that happens to not be in the states (which, again, seems to be what your goals actually are based on your description).

Thanks! The write-on packet said that TLR makes offers first and it could be the first week of July, but I wasn't sure if it actually was or more like the end of July before you hear about secondary journals.BVest wrote:I believe its first week of July or so.

Secondary journals get a list of people to whom TLR will be making offers before the future TLR members receive em. Everything is pretty much set to go and, from what I remember, secondary journals gave out offers within a day or two after TLR offers were made.shifty_eyed wrote:Thanks! Ah, thanks for the info! Do most people get on the secondary journal of their choice, in your experience?nonprofit-prophet wrote:Secondary journals get a list of people to whom TLR will be making offers before the future TLR members receive em. If any of you 3Ls or grads wouldn't mind popping into the OCI/job search thread every once in a while, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by many.

Bumping thread for UT bros.
Do any UT elders have advice for Robertson? (The Crim Law guy, not torts). Seems he teaches it every two years so the new 2Ls didn't catch him.

Unfortunately, while you can still do this for evals, you can no longer do this for grade distribution. For that you have to physically go to the SAO.Will_McAvoy wrote:Bumping thread for UT bros.

MyEDU had grade distributions, but wasn't sure how reliable they were.

I enjoyed Steiker. His exam is part identifying quotes from cases, which everyone bitched about but it wasn't that bad. Then there two essays on more specific topics in class and one essay that kinda covers the class as a whole. Thought it was one of the easier 1L exams I had. He spends a lot of time on each case and gives a summary at the start of each class of the prior class that takes up 30 minutes, which is awesome if you missed something.McAvoy wrote:Bumping for prof tips for Spring:

Re: Recently Graduated UT Law Student taking questions
The exam is weird. 75 true false questions and I think 45 multiple choice. On the t/f, you gain a point for a correct answer while losing one for an incorrect answer. You neither gain not lose by not answering. MC is traditional. I got the highest a in course but not an a+. What worked for me was writing down literally everything he said and doing all the readings. I also supplemented with corporations e and e and the partnership e and e though I prolly would have done as well without the supps...he does a really good job of explaining tough concepts.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
