Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I had fun. I wish people could handle their alcohol better doe. It was easier to get drinks than last year, which is apparently a problem for some people.
Did anybody not see this coming though? I thought there was supposed to be private security hired, but I didn't see any. It's lame this means no beer at happy hours and that they can't broadcast bar review specials in the email but it's getting to the point of year when people start abstaining for finals anyways. I've heard everything goes back to normal next semester but I guess we will find out.

Everyone knew what was going to happen as soon as they announced the party. That it became a shitshow was a surprise to absolutely no one.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Sba hand was essentially forced to have it on campus. It was planned to have it Friday night like last year but admin said no because last year, the alumni coffee hour was Saturday and nobody showed up because hangovers. So admin made Sba have it Saturday and there were practically no venues available at all within the budget. Thus, school became the only real option I heard.

You'd have to ask someone on Sba. I dunno.

Annoying 1L question: Personally speaking, did anyone notice any correlation between the grade they received on their first open memo and fall exam grades?

I will add to the nays. My first open memo, if anything, motivated me to study harder.Spikedude wrote:Annoying 1L question: Personally speaking, did anyone notice any correlation between the grade they received on their first open memo and fall exam grades?

Had the second highest grade possible for my first open memo (our prof gave the range), and got a pretty poor grade at the end of the semester.Spikedude wrote:Annoying 1L question: Personally speaking, did anyone notice any correlation between the grade they received on their first open memo and fall exam grades?
Second semester, first open brief had exactly a median grade, tried about a third as hard on final brief, was convinced my paper wasn't even worth a shit, and got my highest numerical grade of 1L in that class.
Moral of the story, pretty sure my prof graded with darts.

And I think original guy was asking if you did well on first memo does that mean you are ahead of the curve for substantive classes. If so, the answer is a resounding no. LP/LR grades have exactly zero correlation with substantive grades. It's grading completely different skills.

Eh, I loved him, so I'm of course joking. Final memo, I thought something was unimportant that apparently wasn't, so that hurt me a lot.Birdnals wrote:dietcoke0 wrote: Moral of the story, pretty sure my prof graded with darts.![]()
Knowing him, this isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

As afar as substantive classes, ha. A little birdy in Cambridge, MA told me that LP is hardly an indicator of overall law school grades.

It's exciting. I keep finding out new rules every day. Such as I'm supposed to argue BOTH sides 2 days before I argue.Randomnumbers wrote:How about the great job this Moot Court board is doing, eh?

To be fair, that one was in the informational memorandum and made quite clear to us the entire way through.dietcoke0 wrote:It's exciting. I keep finding out new rules every day. To be fair, I never read that and expecting me to read that is aggressively presumptuous on the committee's part. I just assumed the off memo stuff was next round.Randomnumbers wrote: To be fair, that one was in the informational memorandum and made quite clear to us the entire way through.

To be fair, its pretty much moot court 101, brother birdnals.Birdnals wrote:To be fair, I never read that and expecting me to read that is aggressively presumptuous on the committee's part. Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I agree. I was under the impression off-memo was in later rounds, and so did many others I talked to. And I love the board's and Romo's explanation. That it's just part of moot court, and everyone should know. I've never done anything like moot court in my life except for 8 minute oral arguments in my LP class. The board stated that, well, that how we did it last year, so all you 2Ls should know that's how we are doing it this year. I had no idea.Birdnals wrote:To be fair, I never read that and expecting me to read that is aggressively presumptuous on the committee's part. I don't really care, but saying that it wasn't clear, because many people I talked to didn't realize until a few days ago as well.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Any mistake made would have been 100% my fault for not doing a modicum of due diligence.
Still, not exactly a well oiled machine running it this year seems to be a pretty unanimous opinion.
