That guy was definitely one of the students fielding questions in the April 1st ASD for ppl with last names ending in M-Z. He even talked about being from Texas and how he secured an SA position with a firm there.

I really don't understand how this goes negatively against the school? I mean, if you visited any other school and met two d-bags, but everyone else was nice, would you say that the whole school was unwelcoming? If anything, I'm really impressed with how UVa is handling the one false incident. I'm from the north, and I really didn't think much of the honor code at UVa or any of the other VA schools bc here, that's just a formality that schools have. At UVa, it seems like they take it seriously, and it's not just some statement that the university chooses to follow when it suits them. Personally, I find that very commendable.

He was one of the students fielding questions at last year's ASW, too. Seemed like a really cool guy.

Last September when ATL had its posts about Duke's poor reputation among racial minorities, no one from UVA felt the urge to go into the Duke threads here and call attention to it. Perhaps that says something about the difference between UVA students and Duke students, or maybe it shows that we don't consider the affairs of Duke worthy of our attention. The events of the past few days are unfortunate, but they can happen at any school, and they will have no permanent ramifications outside the lives of the individuals involved. I am reminded of a quote attributed to Winston Churchill, who after being criticized by a woman for being drunk, responded "Bessie, my dear, you are ugly, and what's more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly." Indeed, the bad publicity that UVA is currently getting will be a distant memory in two weeks, but Duke will still be Duke.

Since UVA will still be more highly rated by law schools and employers, Duke students are trying to sway the TLS vote.

Surely you are not going to pretend that the west end of Glasgow is the only side with sectarian issues?

Then in the away end, Celtic fans began to fight with police and stewards as some were pulled from of their seats and dragged out of one of the exits. It prompted a fierce, almost visceral chant in support of the IRA, which in turn caused a tumult around the stadium.

The problems with a section of the supporter base is dreadful and should have been eradicated years ago. Hopefully that will happen now, but to be successful will require admission of failure on both sides of the city and further afield.

Both sections have had significant issues in the past. In the last couple of years though, Celtic's reputation for sportsmanship/fairplay has gone up in Europe, while Rangers continue to have major issues (fines in Europe this season, fan behavior in Manchester last season). Football wise this season, the teams were about equal. Celtic had the better defense, Rangers were able to score a bit more. I'll be interested how next season is with a new coach at Ibrox.

I will also fully concede that my opinions are shaded by very strong opinions regarding the Troubles and the place (or lack thereof) of Britain in Ireland, now and in the past.

I'll be passing through Charlottesville next weekend on the way to family vacation. Will the law school building be open to walk through? My parents wanted to stop and see it if possible.

Sunday the 22nd is graduation, so that probably wouldn't be a good day. The school is usually open on weekends though, so Saturday should be fine.

I'd extend that a little further and suggest the 22nd would not be a good day to visit Charlottesville at all, not just the Law School. Most natives avoid the downtown area altogether on graduation day.

There are many reviews online which seem quite mixed. I'd certainly do some reading of those.

There are a few of comments in old threads on here. At least one person said they live there and have liked it. Another said it's in the middle of nowhere.

I presume you meant $8,000. So about $150/week or $600ish a month.

I'd expect that would be plenty for most people, but it will be dependent on where you live and whether or not you live alone. If you share an apartment, you will have lower utility costs. If you use a prepaid cell phone you can save money - especially if you don't need to be on the phone all the time. If you need an iPhone, that's about 15% of your monthly budget right there. If you need to drive to school, that's another big expense.

Presumably you have some idea of how much your current cost of living runs? Are you expecting anything in particular to be cheaper or more expensive in Charlottesville? If so, tell us what it is and we might be better able to answer.
