For those of you who will be in Norman next year (or enjoy drinking, for that matter): Rejoice! It's tornado season! That means it's time to bust out the (new and improved digital) rabbit ears, grab a cooler filled with ice and your beverage of choice and get ready for the Gary England Drinking Game. (LinkRemoved)

lol I can remember driving from Grandad's ranch in Freedom to Alva and seeing 13 tornados touching the ground at the same time out on the ranches out there. Gotta love OK weather.patrickd139 wrote:For those of you who will be in Norman next year (or enjoy drinking, for that matter): Rejoice! It's tornado season! I will be moving into The Links on June 15th. Who all is gonna be in the area? I think grilling, beer, and the pool will be in order.

Hey Patrick (or other 1L+ lurkers),
I am looking at laptops and am considering a netbook (with full-sized keyboard) for class, but I was reading that some schools require you to have a CD drive for exams. Is that the case at OU? Any other thoughts on the laptop situation?

Not sure about other schools, but there is no requirement that you have a CD drive for exams here. There are other programs (CALI, various supplements, etc.) that require a CD drive, but can't you just buy an external one if you need it? (I'm a macbook user, so I really don't know about that.)starrynight62 wrote:Hey Patrick (or other 1L+ lurkers),

As for recommended laptops, probably 1/2-2/3 of us have Macs of some sort or another (ranging from the MacBook to the MacBook Air). Still don't know of one person who has had a single issue with their Mac during exams. Lots of problems with PCs, though. All of this is anecdotal, of course.
Several friends have netbooks and enjoy using them. They're light, functional and easy to use, other than having to type an exam on them. My suggestion: if you don't mind laying down the money, get a Mac laptop.

and remember, even though they are expensive, the IT store has some good deals on them. I got mine there a couple of weeks ago, and got an iPad for my wife, too. I am loving the Macbook Pro so far.patrickd139 wrote:Not sure about other schools, but there is no requirement that you have a CD drive for exams here. Thanks, guys. I swear I have spent more time trying to chose a laptop than I did choosing a law school. Just when I make up my mind, I decide that isn't the right thing after all. I'm having serious commitment issues.

I felt the same way when I was looking at all of the PCs and Netbooks, but then I spoke to several 1L's at different schools, and finally decided I would shell out the cash for the MBP. Probably could have gotten away with last year's version, or even justa Macbook, but in the end, I felt like this was really my only opportunity to really write this off as a necessary purchase, so I might as well make it count!starrynight62 wrote:Thanks, guys. If it were just for me, I would probably be getting a MBP. But our "main" computer is a 5 year old Toshiba that is barely making it and also needs replaced. So I'm thinking of a 14" Thinkpad + the Toshiba netbook. Maybe. Ugh.isaiah6v8 wrote:I felt the same way when I was looking at all of the PCs and Netbooks, but then I spoke to several 1L's at different schools, and finally decided I would shell out the cash for the MBP. my wife uses really only email and things you can do on an iPad, so our solution was to get me a MBP and her the iPad. She can use my laptop if necessary, but she can also get most things done on the iPad.starrynight62 wrote:If it were just for me, I would probably be getting a MBP. Me and the girlfriend decided on The Links. They are brand new and less than 4 miles away from the law school.starrynight62 wrote:So what's next? I assume at some point those who have sent in deposits will be receiving info on enrollment, schedules, etc. I'm sure it will probably be a while, but has anyone seen anything like that yet?
Also, when (if at all) is everyone planning on moving to Norman? Anyone planning on living in Moore/OKC/elsewhere? I personally am looking for something within a 5 minute drive of campus if possible.

is there a golf course? Just assuming based on the name. We just put a contract on a house, we will see how the inspection et al. goes.Texan09 wrote:Me and the girlfriend decided on The Links. If it's related to the Links in Stillwater there should be a golf course.isaiah6v8 wrote:is there a golf course? Just assuming based on the name. Do you mind me asking what neighborhood you are buying a house in? We have been looking online but haven't made the house-hunting trip in person yet. We are trying to find something close to the law school but far from undergrad renters. That may be a tough balance, I think.

Re: University of Oklahoma 2010!
I would have to look up the neighborhood, but it is near Main and Berry, we worked with a realtor who has worked with the friend of the family for years procuring rental properties. I can get you her contact info if you like. Our purpose was to buy a house that we could turn into a rental (hopefully to law students) when I graduate. She knows the area and the values and she really helped us a lot in this process. We owned previously but we didn't have to worry about whether it would ever make a good rental one day. I would definitely recommend her.starrynight62 wrote:If it's related to the Links in Stillwater there should be a golf course.isaiah6v8 wrote:is there a golf course? Just assuming based on the name. Yes there is. I'm not sure if it is finished yet though. The first building does not open until June 15th.isaiah6v8 wrote:is there a golf course? Just assuming based on the name.
