3.35-3.48, median-ish, but below 3.42 is likely actually below

how could firms not catch on to this? Does Cornell tell them "approximates 3.35" instead of 3.42?mths wrote: fortunately firms have yet to catch on to this

I want a scotch but want to read the briefs the judge I'm shadowing gave me.
For those that are interested, alumni judges are super nice.

Which claims? I mean, it's got similar hills and weather to Berkeley and San Fran. It also is about 30 degrees colder than the Bay Area, year round.horrorbusiness wrote:can anyone attest to the veracity of certain recent claims regarding ithaca's resemblance to northern california?

it also has a fair amount of hippies. I've never been to a small scenic east coast town other than ithaca so I don't know what the rest of them are like but Ithaca reminds me of the smaller towns I've been to in Nor Cal.

It's an upstate NY thing. The rest of the rural NE is a pit.FlanAl wrote:it also has a fair amount of hippies. I've never been to a small scenic east coast town other than ithaca so I don't know what the rest of them are like but Ithaca reminds me of the smaller towns I've been to in Nor Cal.

i'd heard it has hippie/liberal feel that you'd find in.. say, santa cruz, california.

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
the town itself yeah but the law school definitely possesses the uptightness you'd expect from the east coast. I'm not a huge hippy but for me having that surrounding atmosphere provides a nice balance even if I'm not occupying ithaca.horrorbusiness wrote:thanks guys. this is basically what i was getting at.FlanAl wrote:it also has a fair amount of hippies. Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Hey all... I am a recent Cornell admit and I was wondering if any of the current students could talk about the academic culture (collegial vs. competitive), quality of life, and difficulty of courses. Thanks!

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Congrats on the admit.msblaw89 wrote:Hey all... I am a recent Cornell admit and I was wondering if any of the current students could talk about the academic culture (collegial vs. competitive), quality of life, and difficulty of courses. Thanks!
1. Not sure what the difference between collegial and competitive is. But Cornell seems to fit both of those descriptions. Not as many overtly competitive people as you might think, but what they lack in number they make up for in volume.
2. Q.O.L. - Well, it's finally snowing, so there's that. Might I recommend buying some earmuffs. Also, you may be shocked at the cost of living around here. The closer you get to the LS, the more the homes become downright hovels, and the more the prices reflect NYC, not middle-of-nowhere.
3. It doesn't really matter how difficult the courses are, only how difficult they are for you in reference to the rest of the class. Civil procedure is, for most, a *difficult* course, but the grade distribution is roughly the same as an "easier" class like Torts. Class-wise, courses really only become difficult if you start to fall behind. Stay on top of your assignments...chip chop chip.

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Sounds rather optimistic. I would have expected median to be around a 3.45 at minimum.Arbiter213 wrote:I mean, half the class is still waiting on a quarter of it's GPA. Assuming you're NOT in that group:FlanAl wrote:I hate that I can't figure out how bad I actually did haha

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Nearly everybody I know stayed at the Statler, which is right on campus and about 5 minute walk away from the LS. However, it's kind of a rip-off. If you're willing to drive a bit or catch the bus, the super 8 motel (much nicer than it sounds) is maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the price and only like a mile away. Plus, it's nextdoor to Wegman's - the world's greatest grocery store.Mr. Somebody wrote:Any recommendations for a hotel to stay in for ASW?

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
There's also a Courtyard Marriott near the Airport that is cheaper than the Statler and closer to campus than the Super 8.Mr. Somebody wrote:Any recommendations for a hotel to stay in for ASW?

The Hilton in Downtown Ithaca is really nice too, and you can at least walk from there to the Law School.Ostrizr316 wrote:There's also a Courtyard Marriott near the Airport that is cheaper than the Statler and closer to campus than the Super 8.Mr. Somebody wrote:Any recommendations for a hotel to stay in for ASW?
