Looking for help on some of my first semester professors...Any info about them is greatly appreciated. (Firsthand/ or from what you have heard)
Torts: Heidt
Contracts: Buxbaum
CivPro: Orenstein
LWR: Robert Downey (jr?)
Crim law: Ryan Scott

Buxbaum will be one of the best, if not the best, professor(s) you will have in law school. Be diligent, keep up with the reading and write a thorough yet straight forward exam answer that does not beat around the bush. She doesn't appreciate a lot of unnecessary words. She gives a fair amount of A-'s but it is very tough to get an A. She will know everyone's name in the class on day 1 an it will never cease to amaze you.

Scott is another star. His cold calls are tough but only because he isnt afraid to keep probing, and he does so with a good dose of humor. Be sure to take the optional practice exam he offers at the mid point of the semester. The feedback on this exam is very helpful and it winds up being an exceptional proxy for the real thing. Dressler's "Understanding Crim Law" is a must have for this class, keep referring to it as the class progresses. His exam will have some very challenging multiple choice questions that should not be taken lightly but the main thrust of the test will be how well you string arguments together. Focus big time on his style of analysis and how he pieces arguments together, he is someone that will award extra points for well reasoned arguments even if they may be slightly off topic.

LRW is pass fail so don't work much on that. It can be an incredible time sink if you let it, my sincere recommendation is that you don't.

EDIT: It is interesting that Buxbaum assigned Farnsworth, that was the hornbook I was going to reccomend.

i only had orenstein out of those four, but she was, in my opinion, one of the better professors I had. She is incredibly friendly and a good person to get to know outside of class. she also has very generous grade distribution (though she gives very few As, she gives a TON of A-s, which makes up for it if you put in the work learning the material). I also don't know if she'll do this again last year, but she teaches a little differently from the other civ pro profs in that she doesn't use a casebook. rather, she taught out of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and then supplemented that with other readings. at the very least, not having to by a casebook is obviously nice.

EDIT: i was a summer starter and the summer starters are spread pretty evenly across sections (though it did seem like there was one section that had a disproportionately high number).

I only had Bradley and DuBois from that group. DuBois is an awesome LRW professor. I think she was one of the better ones (as I heard some not so great things from students who had others). She is kind of stingy with grading, but it doesn't really matter unless you're gunning for a HP.

Bradley is..interesting. He's a little outdated in my opinion. he focuses way too much attention on the Model Penal Code, in my opinion. However, you MUST do the reading for his class. he cold calls (it's actually pretty gentle in that he asks a few questions then moves on) and if you haven't done the reading he gets visibly annoyed. also, his exam is pretty shitty, but it's not too hard to do well. his MC questions are poorly written, but his issue spot section is VERY easy to master by doing the TONS of practice exams that he has available on e-reserve. If you do everyone and effectively learn the MPC, you should be fine.

Ochoa isn't a great professor, I really wish that I had gotten Buxbaum. The only good part about Ochoa is that she extremely left leaning, making it really easy to write a hack policy essay that appeals to her. Scariest exam I have taken though, considering the time constraints and the content requirements (but did very well).

Bradley is the best professor on the face of the earth. Easy exam, plus you get hugh hefner with a bowtie.

Text book protips:

Don't buy from the bookstore, its a scam. Use a combo of used/rental books (search engine is dealoz.com) with library checkouts. You need to buy E+Es, but the vast majority of good hornbooks are available in the library for free.

I had the same issue....cause I was on my Mac today. It appears to be a problem with safari (I'm assuming that is your browser as well). If you have firefox or IE on your computer than try using those to open it.

Some of you were lucky enough to get my professors from last year:

Buxbaum - Excellent teacher. Super nice. Simply an all star. Not as funny as Scott, but that's fine, I don't need comedians all the time.

Scott - Also an excellent teacher AND super funny. Not "law professor funny", but "real person funny." Plays music at the beginning of each class that relates to the material.

Shreve - Everyone likes him, more or less. I thought that he was just an okay teacher, not at all bad, but not incredible. Still, he's funny and not afraid to make a joke or two at a student's expense but does it in a friendly way. Wears awesome suit/bowtie combinations.

Orenstein - I didn't have her, but everyone says that she's really easy to visit in her office, etc.
