I'm not so sure. I keep looking for Tim Lincecum in the hallways and coming up short.
If we ever have an intra law school baseball game my splitt-change will devastate all.

Im pretty quiet and keep a low profile in class so that probably helps not being identified.

I wish. I can say as of a few hours ago, there was no one in the recorder's office. Sounds to me like they don't give a fuck. Considering the economic climate, the increased competition with other applicants is greater than it was, and they would try and get us our grades quickly considering we will be trying to get some summer internships.

Imagine a pack of wolves picking apart the barely existent remains of an animal. While other students are getting what small amount exists, we are half a mile away licking our balls :?
And Monday is MLKJ day. Every positive job response ive recieved has asked for grades and writing sample, this really sucks.

I really have no reason to think Shreve or Hoff are even close to being done though anyways.
I heard Shreve turned in a set of grades on Monday, but I dunno if they are for civpro. I would think he would be able to, if papers were a max of 1600 words. I expect Hoffman to get us grades back by 2014.

And oh god, I was really hoping not to need a writing sample. I can say with confidence our legal writing program is pretty terrible.

INteresting, I dont think shreve taught any other classes so that would be pretty awesome. I don't get how it takes this long for the recorder to post grades.

LRW has been submitted too, at least according to Goodman.

and yeah I dont feel confident at all in my memo/writing sample. Hopefully I dont look like too much of an idiot. Im gonna re-work it this weekend and turn send out the ones that asked for it on tuesday.

I feel really underprepared for all this application and summer job search stuff.

Yeah I don't wanna look at it before i know my grade to be honest. I think Contracts was my strongest exam though, so i sorta hope his grade is posted first.

Yeah, I'm not sure if Shreve was teaching any other courses. I am pretty sure he makes his own schedule/does whatever he feels like. He might not be forced to teach 3 courses a year like other professors.

My LRW teacher also said she turned them before X-mas. Of course, she suffers from delusions. I have loved all of my teachers, except LRW. I think she is one of the worst teachers I have had in years.

Oh lord, her speech on Friday was a hilarious failure of epic proportions. In summary: our class was awful. She almost had to give half the class low passes. Even worse than lasts years poor showing from students. We didn't work hard enough. And in order to explain how important this class is, she gets calls all the time from former students employers saying that they do not write or research well. Basically, she is confused how none of her students, past or present, can write well. Her conclusion? We spend too much time on our computers in class. Her remedy? She is changing nothing about the class or how she teaches, but is telling us to stay off our computers.

Oh, and apparently only 1 or 2 students had memos good enough to send out as a writing sample. (She must think those two were the only one's who tried on the memo. I believe they are lucky guessers, and lucked out on what we were supposed to do).

That sounds awful. Goodman is pretty tough, but she acted like she only gave out one or two LP's, and even gave a few High passes. That being said I feel terrible about that class, so who knows how i did.

Goodman also finally admitted that on the transcript it will say P regardless if you get a high or low pass.

Yeah, I checked the school handbook before I turned in that memo. I managed to not kill myself on it when I should have been doing outlines.

I've heard the best things about Parrish. One of the PGA's who had my professor said to ask for notes from someone who had Parrish. Apparently a few years ago my professor was out sick or something, so Parrish taught the class for a week. They said they learned more in those two days than the rest of the year with my teacher.

If it wasn't for the wait on grades and LRW (and parking), I would love everything about this school.

Yeah Goodman isnt awful but not really great either. I know some of my friends hate her. I think she is trying to hard to make the faculty since she is the head of the LRW program.

Legal professions this semester may be interesting too. I heard last year the new program had some major issues, which is why certain profs arent teaching it this year, and Steele was brought in to do two of the classes.

Its hard for me to really get motivated on work this semester without knowing grades.

I must somehow just not have met you yet, because the Cali thing always makes me think I should know who you are...and yet, of the three guys I know from California, you don't seem to possibly be the same person (your combination of professors doesn't fit with any of my Cali friends/acquaintances). We at least had Hoffmann together for crim law last semester, so I'm sure I've seen you around plenty.

I've got strong guesses on who a couple of the others are, but who knows.

Does anyone here know how fast the turnaround is supposed to be once a prof turns in grades?

This wait on contracts is becoming unfathomable to me. We're coming up toward six weeks now.

Your grade in Legal Writing really means nothing, except if perhaps you get the award for highest grade.

Everyone has told me it is supposed to be 4 weeks (I've been told the 4 weeks is more like a "suggestion" as opposed to some hard/fast/enforced rule. You can also tell law school is like high school, because half the shit I say starts with "I heard" or "Someone told me".) I'm not sure if the wait is with the teachers, or the recorders office. It took almost two months for the summer grades, BUT that was a 4 hour long test, and Donny G had to teach class a week and a half after that test. So, I can understand the wait. For these other classes, I'm not sure what the wait is. I really feel like I will never get my grades back. Like, maybe, grades are just a joke they tell 1L's to make them study.

Guys, moreso than even my own applications I've become concerned as to when you all will finally receive your grades! I'm just a 0L but IUB is an frontrunner and I just wanted to see if there's anyone I can email to help ensure your grades are out before the fall. ;)

Half the reason I am so open on this board is because I am sure someone is reading this. I would mention it as a concern when talking to admissions  There's no real reason for a lot of this wait, but maybe the increased competition in admissions will make the rest of the school step up.

Have you come to take a tour yet? Some of our tours are awesome. Specifically, the one's I give. Also, our campus is better than most of the other garbage campuses I have seen. Usually things are much nicer. I think I saw less hostility during finals than I have seen over this past week.

I don't KNOW of anyone reading this thread, but seriously, this is a major webpage. Dean Pless actively answers (or maybe answered) questions on here. Now, I would have assumed it would not take 6+ weeks with no updates whatsoever to get grades, but I would still have to assume someone at least checks in on this page every once in awhile. It would be a very very poor decision to not check an easily accessed webpage that reaches out to and answers questions of potential applicants (or, for 1L's to complain).

Goodman told us that she turned in our grades a while back and the recorder is having trouble because the school system doesn't know what to do with the high pass/pass/low pass/fail system. We're supposed to get emails. All I know is I am so glad that the brief is more focused on persuasive writing. I sucked hard at the rule explanation part of the memo. I'm seriously considering buying some books of my own.

This wait wouldn't be as big of a deal after spring semester, but with people needing to secure summer employment right now, there really should be more urgency on the part of the school to get our grades back to us. This type of thing can have a domino effect toward future job searches, albeit maybe a small one.

I wish to comment sentence by sentence, so I have numbered them!

1. Sounds just about exactly right. The whole LRW department would suggest to do certain things that will not only not help anyone, but will be difficult to do. My LRW teacher: "People have gotten a job because of a high pass." A few different 3L's: "I've never heard of a single person getting a job because of a high pass." I DON'T believe the LRW teacher.

2. I think I heard something like that, just not from my teacher. I would bet big money that we get that email after we get the rest of our grades. That would make it totally pointless. I honestly feel it is a very very poor decision to give the class of 2013 an actual grade in LRW. This is just more of incompetence to come.

3. I'm just glad it is not whatever it was last time.

4. You must have actually looked at your paper. I looked at my awful grade, shrugged my shoulders, and said "Well that figures." Anything my teacher had to say is pointless, and will not improve my paper or my legal writing skills.

5. I just bought two books on legal writing. Now that I know I will need a writing sample, I bought some books that should help. I am so frustrated of putting in effort and loads of time, only to not learn anything and get a shitty/meaningless grade. (Anyone else thinks its someone stupid to get grades of nothing but in the 60%-70% and still get a pass/high pass. What fucking sense do those grades?) I have never made worse grades, only to get totally average grades.

I agree. Indiana as a school does not have good employment numbers. I would not put it on the school as a whole, but it is certainly due to a number of factors that are different from a number of similar schools. However, all of our first year students getting their grades back weeks after plenty of other schools have had their grades isn't helping for shit. With the complete lack of internships around the country, and the shortage of legal markets surrounding Bloomington, I would have hoped they would have given us at least a competitive opportunity in comparison to other schools.

Sadly, I can't get a job with my potential and my smile. It would be easier to apply to law school without a GPA or LSAT.

Is it feasible for me to pack up every (or at least most) Friday afternoons to see my gf? Or will being away from the law library seriously hinder me?

PS I live in Chicago.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
