Section 7, baby. Even the profs are more chill. Except Edelman. He sort-of cold called.

Paul Butler. Great teacher, just slightly terrifying.zacharus85 wrote:BMore: which prof? I have yet to deal with cold calling.
The rest of my classes have been a mix of free-for-alls, being "on call" where you know ahead of time, and much more relaxed cold calling (e.g., doing one case or a few questions, rather then talking for 30-40 mintues).

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
I would *prefer* a smaller school, but it's definitely not a reason I would pick another school over GULC. There are plenty of reasons not to come here, but the class size in of itself is a pretty stupid reason.Jessicakes90 wrote:Thanks so much!BmoreOrLess wrote:If you want teachers to know your name, they'll know your name and get to know you; if you want to sit back and never speak a word, they won't (and it wont hurt you explicitly). Honestly, the large classes really just feel like a small class where 30ish people talk all the time. The rest of us just sit back.
Only one of my classes this year has been aggressive paperchase-type cold calling.
It's more about how many people are in your physical section (at least, in my understanding) than your 1L class size. Whenever someone mentions how large GULC is, people cringe. But it's nice to know it's not really a factor at all.tuxedocat wrote:Am I the only one that thinks the class size thing is kind of overblown? 1L sections are still like 90 people, right? So who cares how many people your 1L class has in total? Maybe I'm missing something.

Not sure about OCI, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing some Cleveland firms looking for 1L's on symplicity or 1L OCI.buckiguy_sucks wrote:Whats the word on secondary markets at OCI, specifically Ohio? Since the school is so big do most secondary markets represent? If i were to go to GULC, want Big Law, strike out of DC/NY, would it be hard to just come back to Ohio? Are Ohio cities even considered secondary or what? I've heard somewhere that Ohio is pretty insular but if I followed this path I would want it to be a backup plan.
I'd lob this question out to admissions and career services. Better yet, see if they can put you in touch with someone summering in Ohio or a recent grad in Ohio.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Have no idea how transfers are calculated into or "bring down" employment numbers, but by and large the transfers get screwed at OCI. Most transfers I know had to really scramble (majority are still scrambling) to find some type of employment. At least, that's true for the people who came in as #1 from Colorado Southeastern Coastal School of Law. I assume that at least some of our transfers are more like top 20% at a 50ish school, can't comment on how they do.TheodoreKGB wrote:With the stigmatization of transfer students, and the large number of said transfer students, how much do you guys feel transfers bring down employment numbers?

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
I am a lawyer from the Dominican Republic and am going to do an LLM at GT starting this year.
Should I start looking for externships for my first semester (fall) or wait till the second one? I really want some job experience while I'm over there to try and land something in the US or internationally.
Any tips on getting work/externships or with OCI? How to do well in class for an LLM?
I am going to get a General LLM with a certificate in World Trade Organization Regulation.
Any comments?
Also, whats a good neighborhood to look for an apartment/median rent?
Thanks!

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
I have no idea about what's best for an llm, but a lot of my 1L friends have externships for the fall already locked down (particularly with the DOJ) and there have been rumblings of agencies already taking applications for the spring.
As far as housing, everything within close walking distance is around $2000-$2300ish for a 1BR. Not sure what studios or 2BR's are going for because i never really looked at them.

Thanks for doing this. Do part-time students get any scholarships?
I am trying to find out if there is a reason to retake and apply next cycle if I am interested in going to school in the evening.

I think he meant current 1Ls, not incoming students. LLM is pretty different though, so you probably would be better off talking to your program director or having them connect you to a current student.dominicanguy12 wrote:Ugh. Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
What's the best way to go about picking/finding the easiest (most leniently curved) classes for 2L? The plan is to take corps and fed tax in the fall, so i'd like a couple fluff classes to go with them.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Class size is usually a good indicator - seminars are usually easier curves. Also a lack of final exam can indicate an easier time overall, depending on what they replace it with.BmoreOrLess wrote:What's the best way to go about picking/finding the easiest (most leniently curved) classes for 2L? There are also a number of large curve banks floating around, big excel spreadsheets with historical data on the grade distribution of a certain class/professor. A number of journals and student orgs keep their own version of this.BmoreOrLess wrote:What's the best way to go about picking/finding the easiest (most leniently curved) classes for 2L? Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Hi y'all,
Does anyone know the longest time a student can take to complete the part-time program? I read somewhere on the website that under certain conditions, one can complete the part-time program in 6 years. Basically I'd like to know if I can squeeze in 1 or 2 classes per semester where I can be on campus once per week (commuting from out of state). Is attending class in person mandatory? Are lectures available online?
Thanks.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Evening student here. I think it is technically 6 years, but this is a very, very bad idea. Minimum credits per semester is 8 (~2.5 classes) - with no summer classes that's 11 semesters (5.5 years).konoha wrote:Hi y'all,

You really need to treat it like actual school - do the reading, go to class, etc. Lectures are available online only for valid medical reasons usually, and some profs want to see in-class participation.
PM if you want more details, but the CR is do not do GULC part-time program under any circumstances ever.

Extremely limited financial aid - in my day (and maybe still?) you couldn't even APPLY for financial aid.buckiguy_sucks wrote:Really? If you can swing it for under 100k it seems like a good dealzacharus85 wrote:

So I'm paying full sticker. I just have savings, a job, and a sugar mama. If I coulda done it all over again, I'd have gone full-time for sure.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
1. Whats the process like for getting into clinics? How competitive is it to get your first choice clinic? If I have, say 2 clinics that I'm really interested in, will I likely be able to do at least one of them?
2. How big are class sizes both during 1L & the upper level/elective courses in 2L/3L?
Sorry if these have been asked before and thank you!

Can anyone talk about how loans for living expenses work? When should we expect them to be disbursed? (Both fall and spring at start of classes?)
