What do you think the Vault rankings are "probative" of?
Vault's rankings are by their own admission/definition, rankings of "prestige" so... prestige.
Yes, but it's "prestige" as viewed through the lens of junior associates. Not partners, not clients, not judges, but....junior associates. It reminds me of those horrible TLS threads about which schools have more "lay prestige"? You know, the kind of thread in which posters suggest that Notre Dame and Georgetown are more prestigious than NYU and Penn? It's that kind of "prestige" that Vault is measuring. In other words, it's not a type of prestige that anyone living in the real world should care about.

Well yeah, (1) it can be better and (2) it's not perfect, or even a good measure as is - but that doesn't completely discredit its value. The margins of error are just wider so the grains of salt with which it's accompanied are larger.

Even with lay prestige of law school, it's bad but it's not so bad to the point of randomness. Laymen aren't ranking TTTT de jour over an Ivy. Even within the UC legal system, most laymen would assume that Cal>UCLA>SD/Hastings (if they know of Hastings at all).

I think equating V-x rankings with a lay prestige LS ranking is about right.

Vault is a powerful recruiting tool and you'll know why when you see Covingtons rank next year

Such questions have plagued the minds of mortals from Aristotle to Weber to Bourdieu

The happier you are as a person intrinsically, the less you will care

+1.

Also important in considering vault is that it's really just measuring the prestige of New York-based corporate M&A.
A list for litigation, or even other sub-parts of transactional practice like finance or capital markets, would look different.

My firm sent multiple emails reminding us to fill out the survey.

So is it sent to all associates at every vault firm or random ones or?
