practical education is actually v important
firms want law schools to produce graduates w/ working knowledge of the business world
and law schools by and large do a shit job
a reading group like this one (it's not a course, it's more of a club, despite how it's listed) is substantially more useful to most students than spending a week on pennoyer

Talking to law students about their neuritic beliefs regarding case law is about as far from useful business training as I can imagine a thing being.Brut wrote:practical education is actually v important

I think he is defending the WSJ thing, not talking about study groups in general as business training.
Brut, I pretty much agree with you. I was just taking a good natured shot at NYU. Though it would be funny if they just skipped the business stuff and did like, a close reading of Peggy Noonan columns or something.

I'm curious too. Well I'm kind of suspicious about study groups before even starting law school so I don't think I'd agree to one right away, I'd probably say no or something like "I'll think about it" or "Let me try it out for a few sessions" (if it even works like that)carlsenvshikaru wrote:Have people ever agreed to a study group only to find out later that it wasn't a good fit and dropped out/disbanded it?
What is good etiquette for such a situation?

Usually there's like that one gunner in your study group who shamelessly pesters (and vets!) 2Ls/3Ls for their outlines tho and does all the leg work for you
dont know why anyone would turn that down

I just told them I was studying with a different group of people. If you don't want to study with them, tell them in a tactful manner or make up a plausible excuse. I doubt people care enough to hold a grudge. And if they do, whatever. Not worth hurting your grades to please someone else.carlsenvshikaru wrote:Have people ever agreed to a study group only to find out later that it wasn't a good fit and dropped out/disbanded it?

At my law school, it's pretty typical for people to drop in and out of study groups.(at least in my section)
