Yea, first semester grades. When do they usually come out?zylaxice wrote:BmoreOrLess wrote:Do you get grades back before the week-long class starts? Asking for a friend.
Nope. Assuming you mean first year grades, anyway.

Re: Calling all GULCers!
Last year, they came out in 3 batches over the last 2 weeks of January, which was several weeks after Week One. My understanding is that other sections got their grades in different batches or different days, but no one was outside those two weeks.BmoreOrLess wrote:Yea, first semester grades. Thoughts on 1L elective? I think I'm going to go (1) Admin (2) Reg State (3) anything else.

I'm doing the same. Hoping admin is easy to get since everyone will be jumping on the international classes to get them prepared for their 'dream job' doing international human rights/diplomacy/saving the world/etc.JustHawkin wrote:Thoughts on 1L elective? I did one of the admin classes. Honestly, I think your choice is kind of irrelevant. Both can satisfy requirements to get into upper-level courses and both are another grade that'll be important for internships, jobs, etc. Personally, I decided by looking at the syllabi and the course evaluations for the professors. I went with the one who had the reviews and syllabus that meshed with my style (e.g., take-home exam, organized, allows computers).BmoreOrLess wrote:I'm doing the same. In terms of the law, I'm tempted to recommend admin over int'l stuff unless you're interested in int'l law (be it public or private). You get a fair introduction to int'l stuff in Week One, and if you don't plan on going further than that primer then understanding rule making and judicial review of agency decisions will likely be more useful in the long run. But again, I think the substance of the course is less important than the grade you get out of it.
Keep an eye out for e-mails from your peer advisers too. They usually have some sort of write-up or recommendations for courses.

What academic extracurriculars are open to 1Ls? Secondary journals, etc.

Anyone have insight on the Center for Privacy & Tech beyond what's on the website?

I was warned to steer clear of Admin/Reg by someone who told me that those classes are often full of 2 and 3Ls who will crush the curve.
Then I realized those classes are specifically reserved for 1Ls. Oh well. I guess I'll have a semester talking to people about prosecuting baby seal clubbers in the Hague or whatever.
