The problem is striver lawyers who think typos are a sign of shit work product, even when they make them too.
Their typo: mistake
Your typo: 100% proof of your carelessness
Though for litigation, flawless function doesn't matter as much. Typos don't decide cases, but they can seriously fuck a contract.
I don't worry about it. A paralegal reading it will do a much better job that I can. So who cares.

Eh, I try and make it easier on the paralegal when I draft a contract by checking for typos.Desert Fox wrote:Typos don't decide cases, but they can seriously fuck a contract.

I read it once but I'm not spending tons of time on it.kalvano wrote:Eh, I try and make it easier on the paralegal when I draft a contract by checking for typos.Desert Fox wrote:Typos don't decide cases, but they can seriously fuck a contract.

I guess for me, the contract is the end product, so I tend to spend more time on the wording and making it perfect, so people like you have a harder time picking it apart. If it were an afterthought, I wouldn't care as much.Desert Fox wrote:I read it once but I'm not spending tons of time on it.kalvano wrote:Eh, I try and make it easier on the paralegal when I draft a contract by checking for typos.Desert Fox wrote:Typos don't decide cases, but they can seriously fuck a contract.

Yes, I agree. But also, I'm just terrible at proofreading.kalvano wrote:I guess for me, the contract is the end product, so I tend to spend more time on the wording and making it perfect, so people like you have a harder time picking it apart. How much do the hours differ by? Also interested to hear a little more about personality differences, broadly speaking. Is there really that much of a difference?

^also very interested in knowing about personality differences, i know its hard to make generalisations, but usually what kind of people are attracted to litigation?, how will your coworkers be in both fields?

It depends on the firm. If you're a tranny dude in a tranny practice at a V5 in New York, you're probably surrounded by smart bros who actually know what they're doing (and who may or may not be cool bros depending on the firm; I hear DPW has some chill, jovial dudes). At any other firm, it's moar like:Sgt Brody. wrote:^also very interested in knowing about personality differences, i know its hard to make generalisations, but usually what kind of people are attracted to litigation?, how will your coworkers be in both fields?
Tranny bros: Chill fratty bros who are prone to making mistakes (relative to litigators) and are just generally dumber.
Lit bros: Uptight nerds who are in the FIGHT OF THEIR LIVES to get good (e.g., trial) experience and not get shitcanned before they "choose" to leave.

Yea, I really had to think twice before I admitted that in public. Don't wanna tarnish me image.Danger Zone wrote:I, for one, am shocked by this revelation.Desert Fox wrote:Yes, I agree. But also, I'm just terrible at proofreading.

So transactional has more and better exit options, but how many more, and how much better? (Is trans a 10 and lit a 3, or are they closer than that?)

Apples and oranges. Do you want to work in house at a company? Choose transactional. Have an interest in USAO/DOJ/other government work? Choose lit. Want to become a partner at a large firm? LOL good luck.d cooper wrote:So transactional has more and better exit options, but how many more, and how much better? (Is trans a 10 and lit a 3, or are they closer than that?)
