They are planning to merge with Western Michigan University.Cobretti wrote:With the decreased applicants primarily affecting lower ranked schools like Cooley, how serious is the administration taking it? Does anyone talk about the school actually closing if it gets much worse?
The theory is that since both are having financial issues, that the merger will somehow fix the problem for both.
(not even a joke, that is their plan)
They also think that if they change the name, it will somehow "erase the past lies spread by others that are attached to the name"
So at the end of the meeting, with remember the goal of escaping the Cooley name, what name do they pick as their #1 plan to change to?????
"Western Michigan Cooley School of Law" (again, not a joke..............it is that sad)

They all claim to be, and I bet a few actually are, but you still have to ask yourself "why" they are REALLY there..............Skye wrote:Attending Cooley is the result of having a [very] low gpa/lsat? There are people getting scholarships and people who needed to be on the 5 year plan to work, but they still end up on the same boat at the end. Employers don't care that you "could have gone to Harvard" they only care that you didn't.
And the fact that 160 is being pointed to as "good" says all that needs be said as well now doesn't it? (Any posters who are in a T1 feel free to tell us if you think 160 is worth bragging about)
My first instinct is to assume the poster is a too scared to tell the truth but still self righteous cooley student............but maybe not, who cares. Either way, it was a decent question, and there is your answer.

160 is TTT. Not worth bragging about at all. With employment stats as bad as they are for our profession, I don't even think a 165 is a good score. And I don't even officially have on record a score of at least 165 yet (hopefully I will in a month when my new score comes out).Cooleytruthsayer wrote:They all claim to be, and I bet a few actually are, but you still have to ask yourself "why" they are REALLY there..............Skye wrote:Attending Cooley is the result of having a [very] low gpa/lsat? OP, it's cool that you're ripping on Cooley. But FWIW, you might want to take your complaints regarding the students out of the "they wear do-rags, wife-beaters, say "MMMMHHHHHMMM!" and all "look like they're on welfare"" realm. Frankly, we know what you're getting at and you're coming off a wee-bit racist.

Some of the comments do seem to subtly pertain to black stereotypes. I got that vibe before TLS said anything. But I like OP so I figured we could give him the benefit of the doubt.polkij333 wrote:how is this racist?TLS wrote:OP, it's cool that you're ripping on Cooley. Don't accuse me of being a racist. It does not take a racist to recognize that someone might construe those comments as plays on racial stereotypes, especially after someone has just done exactly that. Like rad lulz said, I think it's oversensitivity, and I think OP's done some good posting ITT. But you're way out of line accusing me of being a racist.polkij333 wrote:Huh? plenty of white people do all of those things - just because you're a racist doesn't mean OP is

Sure, but if someone was on a TV sitcom wearing (especially) a do-rag and saying "MMMMHHHHHMMM!", what race/ethnicity do you think they'd be? (Not commenting on OP - just saying that it's naive to say those aren't components of African American stereotypes.)polkij333 wrote:Huh? plenty of white people do all of those things - just because you're a racist doesn't mean OP is

Why would it be racist to say (or imply) that, at Cooley, there are many African American students who unfortunately illustrate and perpetuate certain negative stereotypes of African American culture?TLS wrote:OP, it's cool that you're ripping on Cooley. I'm all for benefit of the doubt. But all of the above plus the zoo comment and I was starting to think this might be on the way to some sort of slow-troll thread. Carry on, OP I'm just saying it was starting to come across a certain way.Bronte wrote:Some of the comments do seem to subtly pertain to black stereotypes. I got that vibe before TLS said anything. I've got a friend at Cooley. They're top of their class grade-wise, but they've pretty much realized employers often don't take their school very seriously. It sucks.

The "mmmhmm" and the "crack" comment definitely point towards some sort of black stereotyping. Not saying whether its good or bad but it's not way off like you claim.Wormfather wrote:Dude said it was a Jerry Springer type atmosphere. Say what you will but that show is equal opportunity. Do students drop the Cooley bomb in conversation a lot? Like are they really proud, so that when people say "What do you do?" their response is "Oh yeah, I go to law school. At thomas cooley SoL." Or do they try to hide it because they're embarrassed of the name?

So, like, how do people feel about the 150k+ debt their in?
Did students realize the employment prospects going in?
What salary do they expect to earn as a solo?
