Re: If your school offered you a buyout, would you take it?
I really want to be a lawyer and I love the practice from what I've seen as a clerk. All the same, if I could do it again, I'd probably buckle down and choose medical or pharmacy school. Just so much less effort to get a job that pays debt that way. I think I'll be ok, but the anxiety kills me sometimes.
ETA: strong regional T2, top 1/3 (until, I suspect, this semester's grades come in)

read GTM but nothing else.Br3v wrote:If you were an 0L, already accepted ED, what would you do with the next 8 months to make sure you didn't have any potential regrets come mid law school?

Kind of meant to gear this question looking for "check out what other jobs you could get/opportunity cost" or "go travel/get things out of your system" type of answers. Didnt intend it to be an OL prep question. Maybe your answers would be the same regardless.JamMasterJ wrote:read GTM but nothing else.Br3v wrote:If you were an 0L, already accepted ED, what would you do with the next 8 months to make sure you didn't have any potential regrets come mid law school?

I'd watch Richard Freer's barbri lecture. Honestly he taught me the class anyway and i think it would have been a big leg up to know where my prof was going from day 1.JamMasterJ wrote:read GTM but nothing else.Br3v wrote:If you were an 0L, already accepted ED, what would you do with the next 8 months to make sure you didn't have any potential regrets come mid law school?

The only regret I have is that I bought GTM and never got around to reading it. So I wasted a few dollars. And I probably should have actually attended class my third year just because. But other than that, I have no regrets.

I would apply to any truly "dream" jobs. Stuff like assistant to the general manager at your favorite sports franchise, etc.Br3v wrote:If you were an 0L, already accepted ED, what would you do with the next 8 months to make sure you didn't have any potential regrets come mid law school?
edit: while waiting on the replies (aka rejections) I would go chill on a beach somewhere in the bahamas.

No, law school has been miserable in lots of ways but I am really glad to be where I am. It really is a ridiculous/awesome/terrible/enlightening life experience.

No. I went into relatively little debt, loved the experience and subject matter, and have a pretty good job for now.
But I think around 90% of my class would take it if they could go back in time.

Nope, I actually like law school and had a good outcome. It's miserable at times, but I do think I made the right choice.

Absolutely not. I've thought parts of it sucked or were a waste of time, but in general I'm really happy I did this.

I'd be interested to know the undergrad majors of those saying yes. If it was some form of Literature/History/Sociology/PoliSci/English/Music/International Relations (and you weren't at least cum laude from an HYPS equivalent) you might be in for a rude awakening outside of law school. My gf was one of those and has had to use connections to get a job paying more than $30k, and this is in a city that did "well" through the recession.
For myself, no. The actual "education" part is absolutely terrible and I cross the threshold into 6-figure debt my 3L year (though some is from undergrad) but I get to live the student life a few more years, got involved with some great orgs, and got an SA that I doubt I will like any less than my alternative outcome. If I weren't in law school I would be making 55-65k in a corporate analyst type position in a low COL city and probably prepping business school apps since it would be time for me to move to a middle-management role.
2L at HYS ETA: estimated total cost of ~$112k

3L at T14 at sticker, and no. I had a decent job before law school, but the gamble of leaving the job to go back to school seems to have paid off, and I've had a blast in school.
