In any case, OP has already stated she won't be carrying her casebooks.

She said she won't be carrying them to school. I often don't carry mine to school either. I still spend a good part of the day lugging them around with me, especially when I have back to back classes on opposite sides of the school.

I had no idea that law school was such strenuous physical torture. Carrying books?? My god, that's one step away from working in a rock quarry!

11" laptop is fine for everything. 13" is more than sufficient. People love to talk about how demanding and rigorous your legal research assignments will be and how you should take that into account and get a second monitor at home and a big laptop and all this stuff. It's bullshit. If your computer is big enough to type in Word and read a website then it's fine. There's nothing so special and demanding about law school work. The one thing I do think you'll regret is having a heavy laptop. You will be taking it everywhere and an extra 4-5 pounds DOES make a bag feel much heavier.

I would advise against getting a laptop that's any larger than 15 inches. I have a 17 inch laptop and it's a pain in the ass to carry around, and it takes up way too much space.

Counterpoint: 11" is fine. I have used an 11" computer for the majority of law school.

Whether or not you personally find it big enough is obviously a separate issue but I am telling you there is objectively no reason you can't use an 11" computer for all law school purposes.

You do realize the ribbon is hideable? Besides if the 11" laptop hasa resolution of 1366x768 the same proportion of the screen is needed for the ribbon as on a 14" 1366x768 laptop. Sure you can choose to make things bigger, but plenty of folk are comfortable with the toolbars being correspondingly smaller.
