This may sound odd, but I personally think that constant mental strain makes your brain work faster (i.e. you become "smarter").

Unless you're just so amazingly brilliant that high level academics are child's play, which is clearly the case with you.

If you think law school is hard, you're doing it wrong. The material's easy hence the curve.

If the material were easy, then all law classes would have extremely narrow curves. This is obviously not true with most law classes.

Conceptually, the majority of legal concepts are relatively straightforward. However, the volume of information you're expected to digest each day IS what many would refer to as a "mental strain."

I really think the argument that law school's teach you to "think like a lawyer" is snake oil. Someone dreamed this nonsense up because school's needed to tell students what exactly they are supposed to be learning during these three miserable years. Because the answer sure as hell isn't "how to actually practice law" or even "how to pass the bar." But fear not, you learn the very important yet hard to measure skill of "thinking like a lawyer." Smoke and mirrors, like everything elsse about law school.

I was just thinking how law school has given me a little bit better perspective on the real world.

I was an econ major and it terms of economic theory, high level academic or financial type stuff law school will teach you nothing and possibly make you dumber.

But somehow in my 3ish years of taking business law classes, learning about public and private institutions, doing internships, and following the news I think I have ended up with a more sophisticated understanding how things actually work in the real world where things are messy, people behave irrationally, and there are market failures all over the place.

Not to say that that makes it worthwhile, you probably could get 90% of that just following the Economist and Financial Times.

My vision better not change too much in law school. I only go to the eye doctor's every 5 years or so.

Torts claims, nuances of statutes, laugh off "liability waivers," potential for discrimination suit liability, stuff like that.

No. I'd estimate that at least 80% of the ppl at my school love it and would stick around but for the need for gainful employment.
