Uh, that's silly. a quick glance at his recent publications would tell you that he's co-written at least three articles on criminal law/sentencing in the last two years. But you won't get into anything too complicated in 1L crim, so don't worry about it.miamiman wrote: given masur's areas of expertise, I was shocked to see he was teaching criminal law.... what did you have him for previously, tton?

I had him for admin, but he is very active in crim law.miamiman wrote:given masur's areas of expertise, I was shocked to see he was teaching criminal law.... what did you have him for previously, tton?ToTransferOrNot wrote:Masur is a very hard-driving professor, but he's quite good. Make sure you're prepared for his classes, or he'll tear you apart fairly mercilessly.
Baird is an amazing prof - I had him for both Bankruptcy and Secured Transactions. Supplements are fairly important to do well in his classes (though I don't know about his 1L teaching).

Disagree with the Cox remark. He was absolutely amazing and I am glad I had him and not Wood.

Do any of you 2Ls/3Ls have any recommendations regarding supplements for 1L courses? Also, how much did you rely on supplements? I've heard of some U of C professors warning against relying on supplements, and that some are basically useless when it comes to certain professors.
So I am just curious whether I should invest in supplements, and if so, which ones should I buy?
Thanks!

Unless you have some innate grasp of the subject, you probably won't get by without supplements, at least for some classes. The only class I didn't use a supplement for was crim.

The only 1L subject that's both taught and tested radically differently at U of C is torts. Buy only whatever supplement the professor recommends for torts. Contracts is taught differently but tested the same; buy Chirelstein. Civ pro is taught and tested the same; E&E is generally recommended. Any supplement will work for property, but if you have Strahi/Fennell don't waste too much time on future interests and emphasize adverse possession, IP, & regulatory takings; vice versa for Helmholz. You might not need a supplement for crim--see above; I didn't use the one I bought either.Whatisthis wrote:Do any of you 2Ls/3Ls have any recommendations regarding supplements for 1L courses? If you have Helmholz, leave the multiple choice section entirely blank. Seriously. Think about it.

He doesn't take off points anymore (well he didn't last year) for incorrect answers. But, if you have Helmholz, remember every detail that you think is completely insignificant. Focus on learning only that.applecore wrote:If you have Helmholz, leave the multiple choice section entirely blank. Seriously. Think about it.
