If you wanted to purchase a bare bones individual plan in NY from a reputable company (assuming you aren't impoverished), it would be around $800-$1,200 a month, and that's for a high deductible plan.
If I remember correctly, the Penn plan is not high-deductible.

But they don't qualify for Penn's purposes even though they are better plans.JamesDean1955 wrote:Well if they're that cheap in PA I'm definitely checking them out!r6_philly wrote:You have to go to student health first to anything. Bummer. Do you need to get a referral every time you want to see a doctor, or just if you're seeing a new doctor they haven't referred yet?

Re: Penn Students Taking Questions
A referral for the first time you see them. The Penn Med doctors are perfectly competent, so for any basic physician needs you don't need a referral--just go to the student health center. You only need a referral for specialists (i.e. my knee surgeon).JamesDean1955 wrote:Bummer. Yeah this really isn't a big deal unless you're like R6 and you're from the area with a doctor already. I haven't been to a doctor in years, so why would I care about having to go to the health center (as opposed to any other GP)? Esp. considering it's a few blocks from campus.JamesDean1955 wrote:Bummer. Good to know, thanks guys!
Btw isn't this the dreaded time of year when everyone crams for finals? If so, then thanks for still taking the time to answer questions.

Answering questions in this topic is one of my favorite distractions from studying haha. But yeah, finals are over the next 2 weeks (I think all of us 1L's have our first final on Tuesday).JamesDean1955 wrote:Good to know, thanks guys!

Penn students,
I'm making a calculator to help calculate COA with tuition/COL increases but I need some data to help the project (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=208464). The data specifically needs to come from current students who can look at their budget for the past 1-3 years. I would like to know the average rent, utilities, food, cable/internet for the following schools. If you can help out, please fill out this form. Thanks!

Re: Penn Students Taking Questions
Anyone know how long it typically takes them to get grades out for multiple choice exams? My last final (crim) is entirely multiple choice, and I guess I'm just a sucker for punishment, but as soon as that exam is over, I'm gonna want to get my grade.
Unless my crim professor is insanely lazy, its not gonna take more than a week to get that grade back, right?

Can't say one way or another. Once the professor gets the results back he still has to fit them into the curve, which he has discretion for on each segment of the curve. It's all up to him for when he wants to stop sipping a mint julep and writing whatever useless law review article or whatever and actually input the grades.SportsFan wrote:Anyone know how long it typically takes them to get grades out for multiple choice exams? Most of them are absolutely awesome when it comes to class time and writing letters of rec and office hours and shit, but holy hell are they terrible at inputting grades.JamesDean1955 wrote:Ah loving the Penn students' admiration for their ProfsPennBull wrote: Can't say one way or another. Are they not holding back the 1L grades and releasing them all at once like last semester?SportsFan wrote:Anyone know how long it typically takes them to get grades out for multiple choice exams? Last summer we got them in a random, slow disbursement over the course the last week of May and the first week of June.Nelson wrote:Are they not holding back the 1L grades and releasing them all at once like last semester?SportsFan wrote:Anyone know how long it typically takes them to get grades out for multiple choice exams? Also you'll get FOUR fucking legal writing grades at random times, which will make you have the typical aneurism followed by wanting to chuck your computer out the window.

Not according to the emails they've sent so far. They're releasing grades as they get them. And thank god for that. Those 3 days last semester were miserable.Nelson wrote:Are they not holding back the 1L grades and releasing them all at once like last semester?SportsFan wrote:Anyone know how long it typically takes them to get grades out for multiple choice exams? Or do you just mean they release the grade four different times?

You'll get a P/F for each semester in your lecture and your cohort section thing. And they're not released all at once like they should--they'll just be sent at random times throughout the two weeks.Nelson wrote: Four legal writing grades? WTF is that about?

Do a lot of people ever fail legal writing? What impact would that have on OCI?

I assume you can't graduate if you don't pass. But you'd have to literally fail to hand in assignments (not just hand in on time, just refuse to ever hand them in). As long as you make something that approximates a good faith effort, you'll pass.JamesDean1955 wrote:Do a lot of people ever fail legal writing? What impact would that have on OCI?

I wonder if they will let you take additional classes if you fail LW. They will probably make sure you pass it some how some way.Nelson wrote:I assume you can't graduate if you don't pass.
