Nah. I've had bankruptcy and Practical Issues in Biz Law for around 10-15 minutes already...chadwick218 wrote:Looks like they are starting with the 1L core classes (because it's not alphabetical). Re: Northwestern Students Taking Questions and Challenges
Okay, so for those 3L's, do we have any idea this year where the top 10% for Coif might cut off?
Class of 2011
- Order of the Coif (up to top 10% by rule) - 30 people.
- Summa Cum Laude (4.20 or higher) - 0 people.
- Magna Cum Laude (3.97 or higher) - 21 people
- Cum Laude (3.65 or higher) - 98 people

Class of 2010
- Order of the Coif (up to top 10% by rule) - 23 people.
- Summa Cum Laude (4.20 or higher) - 0 people.
- Magna Cum Laude (3.97 or higher) - 11 people, or top 3.9%.
- Cum Laude (3.65 or higher) - 104 people, or top 41%.

Class of 2009
- Order of the Coif (top 10% by rule) - 27 people.
- Summa Cum Laude (4.20 or higher) - 0 people.
- Magna Cum Laude (3.97 or higher) - 10 people, or top 3.5%.
- Cum Laude (3.65 or higher) - 103 people, or top 40%.*

Class of 2008
- Order of the Coif (top 10% by rule) - not reported.
- Summa Cum Laude (4.20 or higher) - 0 people.
- Magna Cum Laude (3.97 or higher) - 17 people, or top 6%.
- Cum Laude (3.65 or higher) -103 people, or top 42.7%. This seems ridiculously high; 2008 was an abnormal year.

That high, huh? That's what I was afraid of. I know that last year was an anamoly (i.e., an incredibly high number of people graduating magma). However, I was told that for c/o 2010 someone right around a 3.84 would have just made the cut.Sauer Grapes wrote:Nope, but I'd guess low-mid 3.9s.

I've heard this too, possibly from independent sources. Usually its somewhere in the 3.8's. What it really depends on is whether our year was abnormally high like C/O 2011, or whether it was more like C/O 2010. I think people 2L/3L gunning because of the jobs situation might have really upped the GPA's for 2011. That was much less prevalent our year, I think, but who knows.chadwick218 wrote:That high, huh? Re: Northwestern Students Taking Questions and Challenges
Also, transfers don't count for Coif, but are eligible to receive magna. So if 30 people graduated with Coif last year and there were ~300 people in the class, after you factor remove the 30-40 transfer students, doesn't it appear that Coif is actually the top 11-12% of people who are eligible.chadwick218 wrote:That high, huh? Yeah, Corsair and TTT-LS were my two sources, but I'm not sure how much was based on cold hard facts or how much was based on speculation.rayiner wrote:I've heard this too, possibly from independent sources. Does anyone know if a class gets held up for curve reasons whether or not we get notice of it?

I wouldn't worry yet, my last grade just dropped and it was a 10 person class.

Waiting on Am Legal Hist w/ Presser, the nature of the class and Presser make me think it could have curve issues...I was counting on lazy 3Ls to help me out there.Sauer Grapes wrote:In the past people have known.
