Okay, as someone moving cross country, I am wondering what others have done in my situation. I plan on shipping clothes and stuff, but I have pretty much no furniture. I'm also moving in only a week before school and don't have a car. Any other options besides Ikea? I don't think Ikea does same day delivery to our area, so I'm thinking I may be sleeping on the floor for a few days if that's the case... I wish I could order ahead but I doubt they will hold large, mattress containing, packages for me. Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations.

Which desk, is it on the site? For used furniture, I don't feel like their prices are that good. And the selection in tiny.

A couple bikes were stolen from in front of my building this spring when someone cut through the pole they were locked to.

Not gonna lie: I'd be pretty fugging pissed if that happened.

Yeah, my bike is on the pricey side, and getting it stolen would really suck. Thanks for the input, everyone. It's good to know that the neighborhood is good for bikes. I'll have to think more about whether I'm going to bring it or not.

When will we get our student IDs, and do we need to wait to get them in order to start renting from the library, or if we already know our student # can we rent using that?

Also, will the law school insurance not kick in until school starts in the end of September? (I'm just trying to figure out when I can cut my insurance through my employer.)

you can get your IDs from the library on the main campus any time after you get there. not sure about insurance.

Alright... question about bus stops for you public-transportation gurus.

Assuming that I am trying to go from Regents to (insert name of place here), are the following bus stops the closest available stops?

6: East Hyde Park & East End
28: East Hyde Park & East End
170: Stony Island & 57th Street (It looks like Regents residents shouldn't even consider this bus?)
171: South Hyde Park & 53rd Street (This seems like it would be more convenient for Del Prado residents but an okay substitute for 172?)
172: East Hyde Park & East End

... and then when returning from the law school, I assume that "1111 East 60th Street" is the best stop for 170, 171, and 172?

This is all correct. The 172 is the bus everyone takes from Regents to the law school. You can also take the 171, but it's about a quarter mile to the closest stop from Regents.

The 1111 East 60th Street stop is right in front of the law school.

This is all correct. The 172 is the bus everyone takes from Regents to the law school. You can also take the 171, but it's about a quarter mile to the closest stop from Regents.

The 1111 East 60th Street stop is right in front of the law school.

My only advice on all this would be if you're taking the 171 to campus to get it at Hyde Park and 55th (the northwest corner, not the northeast) - the route ends/begins at the Shoreland (54th and S. Shore) so if you get it at 53rd/Hyde Park, sometimes the bus will go out of service or sit for a few minutes. Obviously that's a longer walk, so if you're up in the Regents/Algonquin/Scholar's triangle, you'll almost always take the 172 to campus. Taking the 171 back from campus, though, is not much more of a walk than the 172.

You should also be aware of the 2! It's a great bus, but it only runs during rush hour. The closest stop is 51st and Lake Park. And the 28 is a little tricky in that it only goes uptown during weekday rush hour, so any other time it'll just take you to 47th/Lake Park. Check what the top of the bus says before you get on it.

The 170 is absolutely useless and I don't really know why it exists.

Seriously. Whenever a 170 rolls by I look at the people on it and wonder what happened in their lives that makes them take a bus that operates entirely on a loop within one part of a college campus.

I took the 170 to Stony Island one time to catch the 6 up north, it saved me like 5 blocks of walking which I appreciated.

I would say that during high volume ridership periods in the mornings, it might be better to go to the northeast corner of 55th and hp if you are going to take the 171. During the school year, it can get cramped and you might not even be able to get on by the time it loops around to the northwest corner. However, you should check the schedule in the northwest corner beforehand to make sure that a bus hasn't already passed by and is about to come around again, in which case you would probably want to stay there. It takes about 5 minutes for it to go around, so it would say <5 minutes expected arrival in that case.

Also, the 2 has a stop directly in front of the law school which is convenient if you want to go downtown.

Do any 3Ls have any advice for which upper-level classes this year are easier/have less-strict curves? I'm hoping to balance my schedule with challenging/easier classes, but have very little info on this.

All classes, except some seminars, are required to follow the same curve.
