Re: UChi 1Ls - Back at School & Taking Questions
Does anyone know anything about international law at Uchi? Anyone going to UChi interested in that field?

Re: UChi 1Ls - Back at School & Taking Questions
I know some 1Ls have summer jobs doing international human rights stuff in SE Asia and India (among other places) this summer. Our class seems to have a pretty strong PI focus compared with other years and I'm sure there are a bunch of people interested in international stuff. We just found out today which elective we got into, and 2 of the choices were Comparative Legal Institutions with Prof. Ginsburg (which is supposed to be awesome) and Int'l Trade Law. I'm sure people will have more to say about it by the time they've checked out those classes, though I guess you'll need to make up your mind about schools pretty soon after 3rd quarter starts?Hey-O wrote:Does anyone know anything about international law at Uchi? When did you guys move to Chicago? Do leases start Sept. 1?

not sure if this has been asked, but do you have any recommendations on housing for people with pets? I'm bringing a 55 pound dog with me to school

I am also interested. I will have 3 pets, probably (there's a small chance that 1 might not come with me, since it depends on another human coming with me), and know that most apartments only allow a max of 2. Do any have a repuation for being willing to negotiate?quetzal_bird wrote:not sure if this has been asked, but do you have any recommendations on housing for people with pets? Also, I saw that Regents wants cats to be declawed. Does anyone know if that's negotiable?

I know Regents will start your lease the day you move in, but if you move in before Sept. 15, you have to pay for all of September, but if you move in after Sept. 15 you pay a prorated amount for the rest of the month, but if you do this, you also have to pay for October at that time (although you can use a credit card to pay for your first month's rent if you need to because you won't have your loan money yet).

I have two cats in Regents and they have never asked me to declaw them. You have to pay a nonrefundable deposit of $250 when you bring the cats in, but they've never asked to see that they were declawed... they did ask to see the forms that said they were neutered/spayed though.

Glad I found this. This site says that unfurnished 2-3 bedroom apartments are reserved for students with families. Do all these apartments usually fill up?

Thanks elle!
Ladies - winter coat suggestions? I do not care if I look like a 300 lb. marshmallow, I just want to be as warm as possible.

No problem.
I have a north face fleece I wear whenever its over 25 degrees, and then I have a knee length puffy coat and a nice wool peacoat I wear on other days. The bus can be kind of messy, so I usually wear my puffy coat rather than getting my wool peacoat dirty (although there is a drycleaner in Regents). The most important thing I think is that your butt is covered on cold days... you want to make sure your coat covers it, otherwise you just feel sooo much colder.

Re: UChi 1Ls - Back at School & Taking Questions
I plan on getting a coat rated to at least -25, because I hate cold far more than the average bear. I'm actually more concerned with the wind, though, since while it got cold this winter where I am, the wind chill was nowhere near as awful as that of Chicago.eskimo wrote:Thanks elle!

Also, do I have to give up my flip flops?

And some boots, and then you are good to wear whatever you want. You can leave your boots at your locker and rock flip-flops around school all day long if you want.

If you're referencing what I think you're referencing, then awesome.Kili wrote:Hmm...I was not aware that there were degree ratings for jackets! This is fascinating. But yeah, thanks for the help!
I'm just trying to prep and all because Winter is Coming.
Also, do you know any people from non top UGs and how they've done job wise?

Re: UChi 1Ls - Back at School & Taking Questions
Any current students know of ED'ers who were able to successfully negotiate their initial financial aid packages? I'm trying to decide if it's even worth the carefully composed email I'm contemplating shooting their way...I'm all loans right now, but got some significant merit $$ from other top schools before I withdrew my other apps. Thoughts? Advice maybe? Thanks!

I don't think your UG school has any bearing on job stuff. The only place I could think of where this might help is better networking connections?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
