Thanks for the advice. I do love Georgetown, I just think it would take a full scholly to pull me away from UChicago, and that's asking a lot...buckiguy_sucks wrote:In the first email? I don't think it makes sense to list ALL your scholarship offers, maybe the biggest one or two you are seriously considering.SD619 wrote:I just got a scholarship consideration email from Georgetown that says to tell them where Georgetown fits into my thinking and how much money would influence my decision.
Is now the time to start telling them about other acceptances? What is the protocol for this without coming off as pretentious?

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I'm gonna go with Gray on this one - they're sending these to a lot of people so there's little point in playing games. If you have offers at comparable schools (and even better, money at said comparable schools), then put your cards on the table and tell GULC to put up or shut up. But, like, in a nice way like Gray outlined.buckiguy_sucks wrote:In the first email? Actually now that I think about it my negotiations stalled permanently after round 2 so maybe they don't keep going after their second offer so maybe do come out swinging or maybe I just didn't have any good bargaining power idk

Not for Appellate Advocacy - I think only people who went to quarter finals or better got am offer? As I recall there were about 26 tournaments we went to back when I was logistics director, so give or take 54 people come on to the team each year. I think double that participate in Beaudry.Gray wrote:I heard a rumor from a fellow TLSer that basically writing the brief is enough to get you onto the moot court team. For Leahy this year about 16 made it on, with 45ish writing briefs. Beaudry last spring saw about 60 briefs and 32 making it.Capitol_Idea wrote:Not for Appellate Advocacy - I think only people who went to quarter finals or better got am offer? Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
This opinion is coming from someone who rarely goes out, and even more rarely does so with people I know from the school. But the impression I get is that there is an extremely vibrant social scene if you want to take part in it. People are always going out, having parties, etc. Lots of groups of friends both big and small. Competition doesn't seem to really affect people much, or at least not enough to damper social spirits. But there is also no pressure (which is nice as someone who values time home doing nothing with the SO quite a lot).jj2hawks wrote:just wondering the broad stroke of the social scene at GULC. any opinions on social life/night life are appreciated

it's really good. from working with others over the summer in other schools, i think it's pretty clear we're the most social of the t14. i loved it, had a blast over my 3 years here.jj2hawks wrote:just wondering the broad stroke of the social scene at GULC. any opinions on social life/night life are appreciated

a school is only as social as the city's nightlife that supports it. DC is alright. New York is much better. I'm betting there's some decently wild shit available at Palo Alto, Berkeley, and Chicago. DC's probably better than Durham, Ann Arbor, the greater Boston area, or Charlottesville.jj2hawks wrote:just wondering the broad stroke of the social scene at GULC. any opinions on social life/night life are appreciated

Durham is better than DC because of Chapel Hill, and Boston is definitely better, especially in the sunmer.Capitol_Idea wrote:a school is only as social as the city's nightlife that supports it. Plenty of people here love to party, but if you don't make an effort to be involved in a social group you can find yourself lost in the size of the school. I think this is especially true if you're a little older (like myself), because the people your age will have plenty going on outside of school. Most people who recently graduated undergrad (2-3 years) seem to have a fantastic time here tho.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
taking any scheduling advice
need corporations first semester of 2L as a pre-req for a spring class i want to take but not sure what else to take, I know corps fall 2L is a bad choice for this but want my traditional law school classes like evidence and tax or whatever to not coincide with when the gunners are taking them if possible

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
If you're really concerned about gunners, then I would recommend figuring out how many heavy docs you want to take, and splitting them evenly over your semesters. There will always be a chance at gunners, so try to reduce the number of gunner potential classes per semester.buckiguy_sucks wrote:taking any scheduling advice

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
FWIW I did Tax I, Corporations, Evidence, and PR last semester, and am doing Sec Reg, Con Law II, and Civil Rights this semester. Worked a little less hard last semester than 1L year and maintained GPA just fine. If you don't fuck around too much 2L, you can take advantage of those who do and at least maintain where you were.buckiguy_sucks wrote:i suppose i'll also want to 3lol though so maybe there is some benefit to just sucking it up 2LEzraFitz wrote:If you're really concerned about gunners, then I would recommend figuring out how many heavy docs you want to take, and splitting them evenly over your semesters.
