Can any 2Ls or 3Ls comment on the new Center for Science & Technology?

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
So my wife was sick/hospitalized over Christmas break, and I really gave no shits about the Week 1 reading. Any 2 or 3Ls able to weigh in on whether or not I can phone this in? It's P/F, obviously, so if I can get by with just skimming the readings the day before I'm going to do that.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Just so you all know, grades are "due" on the 16th, but faculty have a grace period that runs until the following Monday to turn their grades in, and then grades must be reviewed by the registrar. Expect grades to actually be released more like Thursday the 22nd, close of business. At least if the trend of the past 2 years holds up.ChuckBass wrote:This is correct, 5 pm on the 16th. Can definitely phone it in. Week 1 is a combination of lectures (where many professors don't seem to want to be there any more than you do) and small group work (where your fellow students definitely don't care). Show up on time, fake an answer in the rare case you're called upon, pass the class.TheSpanishMain wrote:So my wife was sick/hospitalized over Christmas break, and I really gave no shits about the Week 1 reading. 3L, have no idea what this is or means. If it's some main campus building, it doesn't affect anything about the law school.DiniMae wrote:Can any 2Ls or 3Ls comment on the new Center for Science & Technology?

It's a new Center at the law school run by the Chief Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy.zylaxice wrote:3L, have no idea what this is or means. It appears to have taken some classes from the National Security program and changed the scope. Just hoping someone would have insight.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
This is such a double-edged sword. On the one hand, at least I won't be let down at 6pm on the 16th. On the other, it's my grades, and I need it now. Thanks for the update though!zylaxice wrote: Just so you all know, grades are "due" on the 16th, but faculty have a grace period that runs until the following Monday to turn their grades in, and then grades must be reviewed by the registrar. Any upperclassmen have supplement recommendations for Admin and Criminal Justice? On the face, it seems that our 1L Crim course is different than other schools...

Hi all,
What are the GPA cut-offs? (e.g., what is top 5%, 10%, 20%, 25%, 33%, and 50%)
Thanks

Look up the GULC graduation honors and academic cutoffs for the different years on the main page:thechinaman12 wrote:Hi all,

That'll at least give you enough prior data to generalize. Generally:
Top 1/3 (Dean's List) - 3.45 to 3.5
Top 10% - ~3.7
Top 5% - ~3.75
You'd have to use fancy calculators or something for the non-standard values (50%, 15%, etc.) - as far as I'm aware we only get top 5, top 10, and top 1/3.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Depends on who you have - I had Julie O'Sullivan; she teaches a very different Crim course than others. There's a LOT of material to cover and a lot of cases that could be included in the subject matter. I wouldn't bother with supplemental materials, but then again I'm old-fashioned and just read the book and went to class...JustHawkin wrote:Any upperclassmen have supplement recommendations for Admin and Criminal Justice? O'Sullivan is the BEST btw - she's sarcastic, acerbic, no-BS, and generally quite entertaining.

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Can anyone else chime in on this? I've heard 3.4 is deans list, but the above link has deans list as 3.6-3.68, is that because of upper level grade inflation? Based on the grade distribution, seems like median should be around 3.5, but that's just for an individual class, I have no idea how that distributes across 3 classes for the fall.zacharus85 wrote:Look up the GULC graduation honors and academic cutoffs for the different years on the main page:thechinaman12 wrote:Hi all,

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Wikipedia, of all things, says the overall median is like a 3.3, which tracks with what I've seen. Also, anyone have any ideas on how we figure out where we are in LRW? All we have is raw numbers with no context.BmoreOrLess wrote:Can anyone else chime in on this? Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Our prof gave us a break down of LRW specific to us, but as far as the rest goes this is at least more helpful than the above quote:
http://www.law.georgetown.edu/campus-se ... utoffs.cfm
The academic honors and cutoffs gives top 10%/15%/33% for 1L sections. Looks like top 1/3 is around 3.42-3.5

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
This is generally true, although this cutoff includes both 1st and 2nd semester grades. In other words, if you have a GPA within the top 1/3 range now, you are awesome and deserve all the congrats, but you still have to do as well or better 2nd semester to maintain it. (Not to be a downer. Congrats to everyone pleased with their grades!)BmoreOrLess wrote:Our prof gave us a break down of LRW specific to us, but as far as the rest goes this is at least more helpful than the above quote:

Re: Bored GULC 3L Taking Questions
Can you please advise on the parking situation? Right now I live in Rockville, MD and have been accepted to GULC. would like to keep renting the house I'm in now. I see on GULC's website that the law school has daily parking at $8.00. Is there anything cheaper/more stable (than just first-come-first-serve daily parking) nearby that you know of?

From what I understand, that's the best around. But I don't drive so I don't know.kendallr12 wrote:Can you please advise on the parking situation? Everyone I know that drives has a year long pass, so they are guaranteed a spot.kendallr12 wrote:JustHawkin wrote:From what I understand, that's the best around. Okay, thanks.
Do any of your colleagues who do drive mention whether or not it is difficult for them to find a space there?

Wouldn't MARC/Metro be a better option? Plenty of people do that from places outside the city.kendallr12 wrote:Can you please advise on the parking situation?
