I dunno, you should probably ask that to someone who did well in Hoffman's class. I'd recommend just paying attention in class, and ignoring the 1,000's of pages of reading he assigns. (This is the opposite of what I did, so maybe it will work).

It seems that Hoffman focuses a lot on policy and the purpose of law.
Hoffman:
- Organize your answer
- Try to think outside the box
- Weave policy and black letter law
- No need to spot every single issue
- Argue both sides -- start with "this could go either way (it always can the way he structures exams) but on balance, xxxx (come out to a conclusion always).
- Use headings
- Don't spend too much time on his policy essay, as the spread is usually not as big on this.
- Really nail his definitions section. make flashcards of all the terms and FILL THE ENTIRE BOX WITH WRITING.

Boshkoff: Hope he's lucid when he reads yours, it's a total crapshoot. He tells you he likes concise answers, but this isn't always reflected in his grading. Try to use his "Boshkoff Bible".

I value the input of people who have already done what I seek to do, which is to survive 1L. At the very least, I envy your position of being able to take classes that you find interesting (or at least get to make the judgment of if it will be of value to you or not). This no-choice 1L year sucks a whole lot, especially in the scheduling part. I hate getting up early, and I have to catch the bus at 7:15 three days a week with my current setup.

Haha, I hope my exam gets to him earlier in the day. Thanks for all of the advice. It is exactly the kind of information I am looking for.

What's the Boshkof Bible?

Hey Kings, any tips on Boshy? Did you use any additional materials?

Boshkoff bible is an old sum an substance supplement on PDF that Boshkoff did in the 80's. Definitely find that. It would help a lot. I know for our class it floated around so about everyone had it.

Also pay attention to the problems he does in class, i know it sounds lame, but really if you know the split in the law from those problems, you know a lot of what he will test on. I remember like the 2nd week of class he mentioned Telegraphs screwing up and causing millions of dollars with of damages, and in the exam we had a newspaper that did the same, and I was able to compare that from class, and he really liked that.

and the most important thing i think about contracts, is make a checklist. You will find soooo many extra issues that way.

I took tons of practice exams in contracts and used every supplement possible. I think it helped. Chirelstein, Calamarri and Perrillo, the E & E, Giblerts, I used them all basically

Honestly outside of that class is not so important. One of my friends skipped the last month of the class and got an "A", so really you can rely on supplements to work hard.

Have you guys noticed his blue sweaters? those are the best haha.

OUtiside of 2-209 and Statute of fraudds don't bother learning the UCC really. He actually graduated harvard before the UCC became law, so me and my friends have a theory thats why he didn't teach it haha.

IN all honesty, He's really a nice guy and teaches for free.

and anyone who wants it who does not have my outline feel free to ask.

I just had crim law flashbacks. that exam was such a nightmare for me. My only advice for HOff is what not to do, and that would be do not use supplements becasue they just won't help for what he wants. There is a chapter in dressler on statutory interpretation, and that was the only sort of helpful thing i got from supplements

and I can 2nd I was not concise at all in Boshy's exam.

Be careful -- I think Boshkof does occasionally test UCC 2-207 ("battle of the forms"). But listen to Kings, don't listen to me when it comes to old man Bosh.

haha shows how much I remember i thought battle of the forms was 2-209, So switch that to 2-207.

That was actually my first cold call in law school, so maybe i just erased that day from my mind.

Do we have any transfer students? Considering we have a shit load of 1L's, I didn't know if the school decided to pick up less transfers.

Or more realistically, they said fuck it all and took record amounts of 1L's and transfers.

When i talked to Dean Fromm I know they were considering it, but they hardly take any transfers usually (like 3 last year) so I doubt there are very many if they did.

How many of us ended up transferring out, like 10 or 12?

Gotta be more than that. You, bankhead, most hated gunner, along with people who went to Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, a few to New York... Most people seemed to go back home. I'm really only aware of 3 or 4 people who jumped rankings.

I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number came close to 20 or even above. The increased scholarships gained a greater national scope of people, many of whom went back home.

Actually, between the drop outs and the transfers, the 2L class has to be well below 200 folk. I guess they could bring in 250 1L's.

There's 2 of us at UCLA, 2 at Penn, 1 at NU?, 1 at NYU. Then all the ones you listed.

I wonder how the transfers will affect rankings. That could give a little boost at least.

2 at Penn? Wowza. (Wait, the school, or the state. Because I know one who transferred to the state, and not the school). 2 at UCLA too? Congrats Kings, you got a transferred in friend.

I know of 1 Cardoza, and I'm pretty sure I heard of another.

I'd like to point out I still haven't seen a majority of people round the halls yet. There must still be more.

Hello fellow Big Tenners (I'm an alum, anyhow, but not currently attending class anywhere).

I have a few questions regarding Indiana and business (I haven't taken the LSAT, yet, but that's not really relevant...).

How is the business and entrepreneurship clinic? From what I've gathered Maurer and Kelley are very big into entrepreneurship. Is there a lot of hands on work 1Ls can do out of the gate? Or is it something that comes later in the program? Is the Business and Law Society very active? I'm interested in getting a JD/MBA, so would like to know a little bit of the business opportunities of the law school, especially early on.

Thanks in advance.

I'm actually a little disappointed in the incoming class. I had thought they'd be able to get up to a 165 median LSAT with all the scholarships and application increases. I don't see how they'll ever regain that 23 if this is their best effort.

I can't be too sure. The business school is very well regarded. I wouldn't make any school decision based on a clinic. I really have no idea about that clinic though. No one trusts you with too much until you at least finish your first year, but I think after 2nd year it really opens up. There are a number of people doing the dual degree, but I'm not really sure what you are looking for with "business opportunities."

They seem to be much more into GPA than LSAT. The GPA average is above 3.75. I don't really agree with it, especially since the average LSAT score has stayed the same the last few years. I want to say two years ago the median was 164 and a 3.4, and now it's a 164 and a 3.75ish.

How many dropouts from your class and when did they drop out?
Any in the first few weeks of 1L?

I don't have the answers to most of your questions, but I would just like to note that you probably won't have much time or desire to do much on top of your school work in your 1L year, no matter where you go. I wouldn't plan on taking on too much outside of your courses your first year.

I'm a 1L and I think someone from my practice group has already dropped out (he hasn't been in class since Monday, and he didn't seem sick or anything on Monday).

Thanks for the responses, guys. No, I'm not going to make a decision based upon a clinic, but the focus that entrepreneurship is nice.

I'm nearly positive that he is sick in some regard.

Well, high LSATs are just a much more finite and scarce commodity than high GPAs. We had a 164/3.8 a few years ago. Once you establish a high median LSAT, its much easier to bulk up on high GPA splitters...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
