Re: UChi rising 2Ls and 3Ls (!!!) taking Questions
I'm currently a 0L headed for Chicago in the next couple of weeks, and I have a question for everyone here.
I have a chance to meet with an attorney this week who helps place law students in international internships with Baker & McKenzie who says he'd like to set me up with an internship for my 1L summer. It sounds interesting and exciting, but since I haven't even started law school yet, I don't really know what other options there are for me to consider for that summer. I don't want to blow a good opportunity while I have it, but I also want to make sure I'm not closing myself off from potentially better opportunities for that summer.
Any advice?

unless you're interested in a specific field they don't offer, i'd say take it for sure! you're very lucky; that's a great 1L summer job. plus you won't have to worry about applying for summer jobs during the school year. most 1Ls won't get a better offer than that coming from any law school.

Is there any way to get to Midway from HP that is safe and considerably cheaper than a cab?

Re: UChi rising 2Ls and 3Ls (!!!) taking Questions
The safest, if not the most desirable, is to take the 55 bus from Midway to Hyde Park. This works better, obviously, if you don't have to be that guy on the bus with like 4 things of luggage. But if you're traveling light, the 55 will bring you you Hyde Park. You just have to deal with bus people.seanPtheB wrote:Is there any way to get to Midway from HP that is safe and considerably cheaper than a cab?

You can take the 55 bus which will run you $2.25 and take about 40 minutes. It goes through some dicey neighborhoods but I've taken it plenty of times with no trouble. If that makes you uncomfortable you can hope the Orange line up to the loop then jump off and grab the 6 bus back down to HP, but that'll add about 20 minutes to your total trip.seanPtheB wrote:Is there any way to get to Midway from HP that is safe and considerably cheaper than a cab?

It likely will be close to the first week of classes if you have direct deposit. Last year it was deposited on September 22nd.Bildungsroman wrote:When do us 2Ls get our sweet loan money?

Would anyone disagree with this, or should I just take it while I can?

I've done this before, and it's quite safe for the most part. There are some crazy people who ride the bus, and someone might ask you for money or creep on you, but if it gets too bad the bus driver will throw them off.el ginseng wrote:Thanks for the advice!courtneylove wrote:unless you're interested in a specific field they don't offer, i'd say take it for sure! you're very lucky; that's a great 1L summer job. plus you won't have to worry about applying for summer jobs during the school year. most 1Ls won't get a better offer than that coming from any law school.

A less sketchy alternate route would be to take the L downtown and then hop on the 6 to Hyde Park, but this would probably take a lot longer (though I haven't tried it).

I'll be there. If I'm going to be $200k in the hole, I might as well go to all the events.anewaphorist wrote:To find out who I am! Here's hoping I'm not the only one going.

This was basically my logic for signing up too, plus thinking about what I would otherwise do with my timeDanny Mothers wrote:I'll be there. If I'm going to be $200k in the hole, I might as well go to all the events.anewaphorist wrote:To find out who I am! Here's hoping I'm not the only one going.

Did not sign up for the museum tour thing though, not happening.
