Only two OCI firms are interviewing for their Nashville offices this year, I think - Baker Donelson and FBT. And I haven't heard of anyone summering in Nashville, but then, I also haven't heard of anyone going heavy Nashville.

Going to bump this thread with a question about supplements/tips:

Prof. Siegel for Constitutional Law?

Chemerinsky's supplement should be all you need, but more than anything focus on his old exams. Starting a month or two out go over them until you understand his question style and exactly what he's looking for. He'll go over one in class, so make sure you spend even more time with that one. Like a lot of law professors, he tends to draw one or two of the exam questions from what he's currently writing about, but don't spend too much time with that.

Prof. Salzman for Property?

I'm not sure what other people are taking, but I figured I'd ask if any 2Ls/3Ls on here know the best supps or methods for these professors/courses. Any other 1Ls should post their classes/professors as well.

I didn't have Siegel for Con Law, but agree with quakeroats that Chemerinsky is TCR.
Also had someone different for Civ Pro, but I highly recommend Glannon, either the explanations and examples or the guide.
I don't think a good supplement exists for property.
Also second quakeroats about old exams. Try to do as many as you can for any professor you have.

I think a lot of people missed easy points by underestimating how fact intensive his exam would be: you might have to define a particular term or answer "which case held X?" type questions, for example. Obviously, know the major doctrines and tests and how to apply them, but you should also have a means of answering smaller-scale questions (e.g. detailed class notes).

No clue on a supplement.

Richman/contracts- if you want a supplement, I recommend Chirelstein (the "boat book"). Also, you should probably go to his office hours, if it's anything like when I had him, 90% of the class goes so it basically ends up being another class, but I found it helpful. For the exam, you'll want to know the cases you covered in class.

Jones/CivPro- seriously, examples and explanations and/or Glannon's Guide. The class is pretty straightforward and her exam was the most stereotypical law school exam I had (issue spotters, whoever spots/writes the most wins), so you'll want to know the rules/law cold for the exam.

I have a wife and when I want to go to law school she wants to go to grad school, so my school choice will have to be in a region that works for both of us. I'm very interested in Duke, but I'm concerned about it's location. Are there any other colleges in the area besides Duke? Also, I don't know that I would for sure be able to get to somewhere like New York or D.C. to do a SA, are there any SA positions available in the Durham region? Or do most students interested in firm work have to travel?

Umm...UNC? Chapel Hill is 20ish minutes from Duke, depending on where you live in Durham.

Can't believe this hasn't been asked already, but what is the situation with basketball tickets for law students? I've heard about the campout for tickets...is this feasable with the law school schedule?

Duke 1L taking a quick study break. Grad/professional students get basketball tickets either through campout or standing in line on game day. Campout seems like a pretty good way of doing it. Camping for 36 hours for essentially a 50/50 shot at getting season tickets in the lottery. The first assignment for LARW was due on Monday morning at 8a after Campout this year, so 1Ls either had to get it done early, or try to get it done during Campout.

Word on the street is that its fairly easy to get game day tickets if you are willing to stand outside for a couple hours. The bigger the game, the earlier you have to get there.

I have been looking into cross-disciplinary classes here, and am planning to take a few during 2L. It seems feasible and the administration seems to approve them easily, but I have only met one other person who has done it. Fuqua (business) and Sanford (public policy) both have a lot of graduate level coursework that could be useful depending on what you want to study.

Other than Duke I would likely be looking at Vandy or maybe UNC (employment stats at UNC are a concern, but I've read that there is a strong alumni network even at some of the larger firms).

My class hasnt done OCI yet, so take this with a grain of salt. From what I have been told, if you have some sort of ties and you want to stay in NC, you should be fine to get an NC firm. The Duke class size is small, and most people are planning on leaving after graduation (NY, DC, elsewhere throughout the southeast). There are not very many Duke grads in the market for local firms. With that said, it seems like there might be a larger proportion of students this year looking to stick around, at least from those that I have discussed it with.

UNC has good placement in NC, but that might be because they dont have the placement power elsewhere. Their overall employment numbers are a concern (comparably), as you mentioned. Thanks for the input! I have been thinking I'm pretty set on NC as of now, but the fact that Duke places in other markets is definitely a draw since of course I can't predict whether that will be the case down the line. I think it is generally best to keep options open and I feel like Duke provides that (UNC not so much)

Hopefully scholarship info in a few months will make this an easy choice!

On a different note, I'm planning on visiting the area/campus over Christmas break. No tour or anything, just never been to Durham and want to check it out. Any suggestions for good restaurants or shopping? I'll be there with family so don't want them getting bored while I wander campus a bit

If you're a chicken and waffles fan, Dame's Chicken and Waffles is a must-visit. Probably pound-for-pound one of my favorite restaurants in Durham or anywhere else.

I have actually never had chicken and waffles, but it definitely sounds like something I could get into
