I'm in Bloomington now. Still haven't found an apt.
Did you get a 1br?
I could use some recommendations for 1br places within walking distance to the law school. (I may be open to rooming with people though if its in a nice place). It somes like some nicer 1brs are already taken up.

The nice ones (modern buildings) are definitely in short supply around the law school.
If you absolutely must be within walking distance, then you should be ready to compromise. Check out the three places I listed. Also, ask Parker real estate to show you 612 s fess st. It's a house that's divvied up into 1brs that's very close, and it's pretty cheap, too. I didn't get to see it, but they assured me it's legit (no weird hack jobs to the place when dividing up the house).

Okay. So you got a 1br?

I did. It's small, but I currently live in an urban studio much smaller, so I don't mind having less square footage. And without a car, location's everything for me.

I have a bad feeling about this semester.
Have you put transfer apps in already?
I actually just got moved back to CA, and Start working for the judge on monday, so hopefully I can get them going soon, I think im gonna wait for grades, cuz Im not feeling strong on the next two, so I may not be so hot anymore haha.
For all you 1L's to be, enjoy not having stress while you can, this last few weeks has been pretty brutal

Did Williams grade break your spirit too? I'm thinking the best job I can get now is doing doc review or blowing dudes for cash.
Well, maybe it's not that bad, but I had higher hopes. I am not very confident on Krishnan either. The scope of his test was so limited, I'd have preferred to get Susan Williams test. At least if you weren't totally clear on one issue you wouldn't be wrong on 1/3rd of the test.

I might just be naive, but if the test is hard, does that really affect your grade that much? If everything is based on the curve, wouldn't you end up more or less getting the same grade as if the test was easy, as long as you still placed in the same percentile in the class?

I like the harder tests, as they usually have way more issues. If the test is easy (not many issues, no hard issues, loads of time) it's hard to know how you did. For instance, if the question is: "How do you spell torts?" you can be sure everyone gets pretty much the same answer, so you don't know how the grade will turn out.
Or if you have a test with like 5 issues they want analysis on (you know, out of 1,000 things they teach you), and you don't know one of them, that really cuts down on your grade. Especially when it's something you briefly went over at the end of the semester along with 30 different concepts. It's like asking: "What did we go over on February 22nd?" Maybe you were gone, but knew everything else. You are then screwed. That's probably why I prefer the harder tests.

I looked at one of Krish's tests from W&M and it seems he tested a lot of RAP, covenant of quiet enjoyment, and abandoned/mislaid/lost property.
I feel the same way about Buade's test. I wish he tested more breadth. That test was a disaster for me on so many levels... then again, I thought the same thing about Hoff and that went well for me so who knows.
Vega, yeah that is right -- assuming you aren't (one of) the only dood(ers) who thought the test was actually hard.

Gotta agree with BH. It's really frustrating when you study and study to understand hundreds of legal concepts and memorize terms, definitions, and cases, and they test on about 5 things. I remember that frustration from Bradley's exam: serious daily reading that required extensive note taking, then the test not referring to a damn thing. It really just puts people who studied their asses off and people who didn't do much of a damn thing all semester on the same level.
Yeah, his old tests are pretty similar, which helped me out a little. 1/3rd of the test was future interests and RAP, 1/3rd was habitability/(the other similar one I've already forgotten) and the landlord tenant relationship, then covenants/servitudes.

I have yet to talk to one person that felt good about the covenant/servitude question, so we may be ok on that. That first one had like a billion issues in it, and im pissed that i saw one of them at the very end that I could have written about for much more, but oh well. Krishnan didnt really explain how he is gonna grade so Im kind of at a loss, he seems to want lots of info even if it is not related at all to the facts.
as for williams, I just think i suck at theory arguments, cuz the test was so straightforward and he taught it so well that simply spotting hte issues and giving analysis isn't enough to separate from the pack. I feel like it was the same in Hoffman to some extent, and I got the same effing grade haha.
and legal profession is a crapshoot, cuz I dunno how anything went in that class really.

Median with 6k words? Jeez. Shit. That doesn't bode well for my 6k on Sue's test...

Yeah to be honest im completely lost on what I could have missed in Con law, I thought I hit everythign and analyzed it well. I think maybe he wanted more in suspect class analysis with religion groups, but man I thought I threw in some stuff that was pretty hidden, oh well I guess.
First day of work is in the books and I really want to work for the USAO after seeing them take just about every other lawyer today.

I don't expect anything for at least another week. I blame Burma for this early grade.
Summer is great. The write on is terrible. The job can be disturbing. For instance, if you work on sex crimes, be prepared to hear and see some terrible shit.

Oh yeah, first day I sat in a pre-pubescent child porn sentencing which showed the video's in full. I was pretty far from the screen thank god, but just the sound was disturbing.
But I have been working on environmental law since then, which is something I never thought id even think about before haha.

Has anybody heard anything about LRW being graded next year? I've heard some rumors, but I haven't heard anything solid yet other than it's a decision that seemingly comes up every year and has always been kept at pass/fail.

I've heard rumors of that nature too, but no confirmation. Your best bet would be to call and ask.

No way. They have been saying it for years, and it never happens.
The LRW teachers are also way too damn lazy to actually grade anything. The only thing that got an actual grade was the final memo and the final brief. You really have to twist their arm to get any sort of answer or writing help. No way they give themselves actual work to do.

My teacher was actually very helpful in terms of written feedback and was always available for help during office hours, etc. Too bad he left.
