Didn't take it, but it's apparently super popular, and I think you have to bid it first to have a shot. It's also a ton of work. (Note: I can't seem to find it in Helios, so I'm not sure if this is the same one that is so popular.)

easier to get as a 1l, you have to fill out application/brief statement of interest. lots of people seem to get accepted off of the wait list

How arbitrary is LRW grading? Is it worth pouring your soul into or should you give it your best effort and put your energy and resources elsewhere?

I spoke to someone who thought if he could do it all over again, he would have concentrated on his other classes and let the chip fall where they may in LRW.

It's not arbitrary (assuming you don't have an outlier instructor). In my opinion, it's worth the effort to do a really good job. You also have plenty of time 1L to both concentrate on your other classes and put a lot of effort into LRW.

I'm talking arbitrary in the sense of getting an H. What if you are in a section where the fellow just doesn't give out that many H's? I mean I understand one needs to put in his or her best faith effort but it will suck to sink a disproportionate amount of time into it and end up with a P anyways.

My main question is...how bad does a P in LRW look?

I did?

Anyways, can you let more knowledgeable people answer (i.e. 2L's, 3L's etc)? I'm not really interested in juvenile 1L-to-1L bullshit at the moment. Maybe next time.

From someone who got a P in everything LRW related across the entire first year: A P in LRW doesn't matter on its own unless you want Wachtell (because more than a P or two rules you out) or Boies. But it's still worth putting in a lot of effort, because that is pretty much the only way you will learn to write. (I speculate... I still don't know if I've ever learned to write... :) ) And once you are a 2L, the opportunities that you'll have to work directly on writing are fewer and further between, and there won't be any outside pressure to do it. So now is the time.

You're an idiot for reasons I won't get into. Why are you even trying to answer the question considering you're a 1L? Rhetorical, don't answer.

yeesh. ok dude, just that you seem pretty miserable and my point is there's no reason to be.

just as a PSA to others reading the thread, most people at HLS seem happy, or at least nowhere near as miserable as this guy

Blessedassurance you should have gone to Yale. You wouldn't worry about grades and wouldn't post such questions. Or at least you should have gone to stanford where the weather is nice.

I would choose a ghetto if I didn't have to worry about LRW grades.

I'm a 1L, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I've heard very good things about Wu and Blum from friends. Feldman has been mixed depending on whether the person likes his authoritative teaching style, and I've heard people like to gun it out in his classes. That being said, those who like his lecturing REALLY like it.

Yeah, I can echo that. Everyone knew that Blum was good last year, so you had to bid her first. I ended up with Wu and I really liked him. He is relatively new and people really seem to be catching on that he's a good prof. His other courses seem pretty full too.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
