Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Do any full-time students start working their 2l and 3l years? Are there any paid TA positions or something like that?

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Hi everyone! Quick question about LRAP -- I'd really like to get experience on a political campaign at some point (I'm not necessarily trying to do policy work long term, I'm just interested in getting the experience/working for something I believe in) and am wondering if this would qualify? I don't think it would because non-profits are not political but just wanted to check if I'm missing something. I can't imagine there aren't other GULC alum who have similar interests.

Plenty of people work. I've seen everything from TAs, BS work study desk jobs, remotely working for your SA firm, and local legal jobs. Once you realize law school itself is like a 2-3 week a semester thing, working isn't tough.us3rnam3 wrote:Do any full-time students start working their 2l and 3l years? How much did you all spend on textbooks? I'm looking at the budget form and it's over $1000 for the year. That seems like it could be a major reach.

if you buy early and don't mind running the risk of being exposed to the highlighting and notes of several other parties, you can get everything you need from amazon for a couple hundred bucks per semesterhegotmoneyyyyy wrote:How much did you all spend on textbooks? LRW profs seem happy to give them. They're your best bet if you didn't get to know any (I didn't either).thelincolnlawyer wrote:Any advice on getting a LOR from a professor if I haven't really gotten to know any during my first year? An externship I would like to apply for in the fall requires one

I had a similar situation, and literally just asked a professor to chat, sat down for almost an hour discussing life and goals and things, and after that she was more than happy to write a letter. I had an A in her class, but she definitely appreciated getting to know me first.thelincolnlawyer wrote:Any advice on getting a LOR from a professor if I haven't really gotten to know any during my first year? This exactly.Gray wrote:Yeah I definitely recommend asking a professor you liked if you can stop by to ask them for advice - go have a couple conversations in their office about what you are thinking, get their advice, chat about other stuff and be friendly. I did this a few times without the goal of getting a letter of recommendation, but when the time came to ask, the answer was the professor equivalent of "duhh"EzraFitz wrote:I had a similar situation, and literally just asked a professor to chat, sat down for almost an hour discussing life and goals and things, and after that she was more than happy to write a letter. Considering GULC is a large school, do you think it's more difficult to build relationships with professors and even students? Did Gtown feel like home to you?

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
In terms of professors, I never found it difficult to build relationships with the ones who cared enough to meet with students. My largest class was about 100 people, but most were 30-50, with some 10 person seminars. In general, if you put the effort in to get to know them, they will likely reciprocate.JordanLaw15 wrote:Considering GULC is a large school, do you think it's more difficult to build relationships with professors and even students? Because of the way the sections are split, and the fact that your entire first year (barring 1L spring elective) is with the same 100 or so people, GULC did not feel overly huge, or like there were too many people to feel part of the "family". I personally did not make tons of GULC friends, but I also didn't go to many school events, happy hours, etc. And even after 1L year, I still see lots of the same people in my classes.

Calling fellow 3Ls, since this seems to be about the only place where we all congregate.
I hope you are all enjoying the commencement speaker meltdown as much as I am.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Our graduation speaker is a professor who isn't well known outside of critical race theory circles. Cue massive fight in the Class of 2014 facebook group over whether we deserve better (like a SCOTUS justice or something, because omg we are a great law school and can't we at least get a practitioner), and whether this is liberal bs catering to Section 3. Cue bigger fight between section 3 and the rest, with cringe-worthy hysterics and pretty amazing trolling on both sides. If you're lucky it'll end up on ATL lol.usn26 wrote:*intrigued*Capitol_Idea wrote:What is happeningMr. Blackacre wrote:Calling fellow 3Ls, since this seems to be about the only place where we all congregate.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Anyone care to share a story about a time when they thought they bombed an exam, their answers were incoherent and all over the place, AND they skipped entire sub-parts of questions -- yet they still ended up with a B+ or higher?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
