It's not too bad. It's rarely busy, but the green whatever it's called should be replaced soon. It's also full-size and not at an angle, which were both surprises to me.

Thanks! I've never been a very good pool player, but I've found it to be a really good way to relieve stress.

As a follow-up, how likely am I to get one of the "cheap" rooms (~$1700) in Mercer as a new student? I understand that I won't be in the lottery, but I can't find any information on how they assign rooms.

Haha I know what you mean. I'm in the gameroom at least once or twice a week playing pool or ping pong.

You shouldn't have an issue landing something in the building. It's still pretty early, I think. I applied for housing in April and got my top choice

If I'm reading this right, that's about $7.50/meal on the highest-volume (cheapest per-meal) plan. Doesn't seem worth it, even in NYC. Buy groceries, use the extra $10+/day on Starbucks.

Yeah, definitely not the best deal unless you eat like a horse (like most college meal plans). Since I'm going to be commuting I thought it could be a good idea for lunches, but given the plethora of other meal options in that area, I certainly am not looking for an excuse to go back to eating mass produced mac and cheese. *vomit emoticon*

While we're on the subject, any current 1Ls have good lunch suggestions?

Instead of doing my job, I've been mapping out the closest Starbucks to campus and the subway stop and reading reviews on each of them. It's a miracle of I don't get fired before August.

Third rail is good, but I am mad at them for not having iced coffee the other day Also, Joe, the art of coffee is better/cheaper.
Cheap food: mamoun's (turkiss is better/more food), free shit in Wachtell lounge like all the time if you check your email fairly religiously, Saigon Shack, plethora of Indian places, the dosa guy across the street (vegetarian option), a subway a couple blocks away that gives student discount, five guys next to that (which is better than shake shack IMO), a dumpling place on Sullivan that I can't remember the name of, a mexican place off bleecker that does $7.50 lunch+drink. Alternatively, walk over to St. Marks if you have a bit of time and walk in literally anywhere.

Just got admitted (woot) literally was shaking when I got the call. I'm currently a WL at Berkeley and hold at Columbia (but unlikely to be admitted based on #s). Just in case I do get admitted I really have got to get my personal rankings straight because I may have a matter of days to decide on everything.

That being said I have been to NYC and spent like a day in San Fran but honestly don't have a great picture of either other than my friends who live in both places telling me that they live in the best city on earth. I'm not worried about money because I have settled on the fact that I am going to be in debt for the next 10+ years after going to school in either location, but what I am worried about is the environment. I live in denver and love rock climbing and snowboarding, I grew up surfing in florida and I really need an outdoors outlet.

Beyond that I am just wondering why people went NYU and if anyone had a Columbia vs. NYU or a Berkeley vs. NYU situation and why they chose NYU

Also, I lied... I am worried about money, how much are the dorms on average and does anyone live with their girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife? What is that like?

Obviously I have no pressing need for an NYU email/home account, but I emailed Admissions to clarify an enrollment detail a few months ago and the woman who got back to me told me that they'd begin processing deposits and activating school accounts "soon." Why couldn't she have just said "in a few months"? Oh well, I'm just being pointlessly impatient.

i think it was earlier then june, when you have access to the home.nyu.edu site you have access to your email and I think i got access when i gave my second deposit and secured my seat. so for me that was around april i believe

I'm not sure what second deposit you're talking about, but I gave them the deposit with my intention to enroll form in December. I don't think they need any more money from me before the first tuition payment.

True --I skipped ahead too far. Have you asked about it yet? Seems like ED deposits should've gotten it by now based on last year.

ETA: "Beginning in February, all students who submit a tuition deposit will be assigned a Net ID and University ID. Please note that once the Office of Admissions has received and processed your Intention to Enroll form (which can take up to ten business days), it may take an additional 72 hours before you can obtain your NetID and University ID, and activate your NYUHome account."
