Are you talking about when OperaSoprano went to Penn Station to buy a copy from a news stand that had them out early?

Yeah, there were a good number of people much more interested in the rankings than sleep. It was pretty epic. I think Ken paid for her cab rid up there. She was giving up preliminary info through phone before she came home and scanned the rankings.

Yeah, I realized I hadn't sent it in when I woke up. That doesn't actually make sense, considering I knew there was no way I would work on it last night or this morning.

I'm still thinking about how awesome it would be to skip today. I think I still have sick days.

So, mine is so terrible I'm pretty sure it would get me disbarred. On the bright side, it makes slightly more sense than the Walsh case.

I just recetly commited to IU-B, but I'm not 100 percent sure I will be going. I'm waiting on one school which I probably will attend if I get in. My question is can I still withdraw? I didn't want to let a great offer pass up esp with the deadline being today

Of course you can. A commitment (deposit or otherwise) is never binding... its just supposed considered in bad manners and not a good way to begin your law career...

...but I think thats BS. Any school that maintains waitlists well into august (which is all), has to know that any person they pull off the waitlist will likely have to decommit from another school. If law schools play that game without impunity, so should law students.

I was close to hallucinating last night during my last CREAC. 1 hour of sleep combined in two nights. Not healthy. My brief is probably the worst thing I've ever turned in.

Also, I think I finally saw kings on the way out this morning. I might have been imagining things. I fell asleep during LRW at least once this morning.

Ok now that the hell that is LRW is over, what are you guys thoughts on Journal and Moot court?

If I end up staying I think I would definitely want to do Journal, not super into Moot court though.

I want to do moot court. Not really loving the thought of doing journal, but conventional wisdom seems to be that journal is significantly better for your resume than moot court is.

Have people here heard things to that same effect?

If I can get on a journal, I'll do journal. If not, then I'll do moot court. Won't do both; too much of a time sink.

I've heard the flagship journal is substantially more impressive than moot court on your resume. The secondary journals, however, I'm not sure would be that much more of an advantage. I've heard conflicting things.

I think secondary Journal Plus board is better then moot court, but obviously thats harder to get as well.

Also for what its worth, Professor Steele told us a few months back that for litigation a Clinical on trials is much better the moot court for hiring.

I do think its lame that we have to do the write on before grades come out. Im not sure if Ill wanna do the write on, since Im probably gonna have to do like 2 or 3 others for transfer stuff. And I feel like a jerk if I don't, since if I don't transfer I'd likely want to journal, and I dont wanna come off as super over confident.

I'm shooting for both. I think I've graded onto the crappier journals, and I've heard they are significantly less work. I forget the exact numbers, but the main journal takes 20 hours a week, with the global journal taking like 4.

So I might try and write onto the main one, or I might feel lazy and not do shit. Moot court sounds fairly more interesting than journal.

If it helps, my LRW teacher said that journal is more important. Moot court will come off your resume in 5 years, but journal will stay on for significantly longer. And she said it's best if you get some sort of distinction in moot court, but it isn't worth it to kill your grades.

For those going into litigation, I think it would be best to get that actual experience. I thought I learned a good bit from oral arguments without putting much of any work into it. And the note for journal should probably be pretty similar to your note from a seminar. I think it would be good to not lose what little legal writing skills I have learned and get some practice.

Anyone know what grades you need to grade onto (1) main, (2) fed comm, (3) whatever the other one is?

Top 10% at ILJ, and top 20% and 30% at the others (but I don't know which one is 20 or 30)

Edit to add the other one is Indiana Journal of Global Legal studies.

Also about 30 student do each journal, about half graded on.

Well it depends on grades 2nd semester for sure. I think that if I keep where I am that I should be good for Berkeley, (and maybe CCN), if i move up a bit maybe HYS.

Last year there were transfers to Harvard, 2 at Columbia, Vandy, Penn, Texas, and UCLA.

Kings, thanks for the grade cutoffs.

That's cool that someone transferred into Penn. Wonder what grades are needed to get into that one.

Are those the only schools people transferred into, or just the ones you know about?

I think 2 actually got into Penn, not positive on that though. Im not sure the grades on Penn. I know a few pages back RonSantoRules said for Columbia one was top 3% and one was top 20%.

And yeah I think thats all the schools from last year at least. 8 out of 200 is a lot of transfers though.

Edit to add: I think top 15% would have a shot at Penn, in trasnfer apps last year someone got in top 15% with a 20's school

Wow, okay. So to be able to transfer there, you would have to be at the very top of the class. I guess you would rather pay sticker at Berkeley than see what the very top of the class at IU would get you as far as placement?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
