lol 1L OCI. There were like 15 firms or something laughably small, and at least several didn't hire anybody. The overwhelming majority were from Alabama (?).

I think there was a bonus 1L OCI with public interest, but I don't believe in helping people or paying attention to those who would help people, so who knows.

I was thinking that was the case, but hoping otherwise.

There were surprisingly a few law firms that posted internship openings for 1Ls on the Symplicity job listings in February and March. I was actually offered an interview with one, but had to turn it down because I got offered something else with a deadline before the interview date. (Turning down the other offer would've been dumb because getting an interview with a firm doesn't guarantee they'll take you and then I would've had nothing.)

I think the thing about 1L firm jobs is that there will be a few decent ones out there, but they're not going to come to you, you're going to have to go find them.

It's something that effort alone can't topple. Are you extraordinarily well connected to people who make legal hiring decisions at a law firm? If not, do you have deep roots to a very small legal market which would look favorable on UVA? Effort helps, but there's not much you can do as a 0L OR as a 1L to secure a 1L firm job based on the anecdotes I saw

Worth a shot, but not something that 'already working on' as a 0L will help.

At the risk of outing myself all of the bolded was what I was talking about (well the market isn't "very small" but it isn't one of NYC/DC/Cali).
