Some do. It depends on the section/module. You don't find out your section and your schedule until the first day of orientation. But if you have a serious, recurring, scheduling conflict (e.g. serious long-distance relationship), you can talk to the administration about it and maybe then can place you in a section that doesn't have class on Fridays.1278 wrote:Hey Boalties,

Thoughts on doing two journals as a 1L?

Snooze fest. Do something with education value, and something that isn't as boring and time-consuming.Dr.Zer0 wrote:Thoughts on doing two journals as a 1L?

Join a SLIPS or a clinic, try out for the Negotiations and Mock Trial teams in the fall, and if you don't get on the team you want do the intramural 1L competitions in the spring.Dr.Zer0 wrote:What do you suggest?Tanicius wrote:Snooze fest. Better yet, just don't do anything and give yourself some free-time. Definitely don't do 2 journals.

Re: Boalt 1Ls taking questions
I'd recommend joining one journal. The work can be interesting, but most of all, it's a great way to meet 2Ls and 3Ls who can help you navigate law school, it helps a bit with 1L summer job employers (maybe), and it's a step towards a board position on a journal 2L year if you decide to go down that route.
The SLIPS are great too. As a 1L I did one journal and one SLIP.

Re: Boalt 1Ls taking questions
I think most people do 1 journal and 1 SLIP, which is probably a good amount unless you are a crazy person who does not sleep. Some journals and SLIPS are way more work than others though.

How helpful is CDO? TLS consensus seem that CDOs/CSOs are prty useless.
Also gl to rising 2Ls doing EIW.

i mean i liked them but they are useless in that they can't fix your problems, which are probably related to transcripts, bad interviewing, lack of experience, etcDr.Zer0 wrote:How helpful is CDO? TLS consensus seem that CDOs/CSOs are prty useless.

also their advice seems to boil down to "any job is a good job and once you have one job it'll be a lot easier to get a job you like" but tbf ite that advice is pretty credited

Did you enjoy protesting before or after you went to Berkeley Law?

Does anyone drive to school? How bad is parking at Berkeley, especially near the law school? Annual parking permits are expensive, but I'm looking at some places right now that are pretty inaccessible by public transportation.

Some ideas for alternatives to parking pass:drumstickies wrote:Does anyone drive to school? How bad is parking at Berkeley, especially near the law school? Annual parking permits are expensive, but I'm looking at some places right now that are pretty inaccessible by public transportation.
1) There is metered street parking in front of the school along Bancroft, but it is hard to get, it is limited to a max of 2 hours, it is relatively expensive, and it is aggressively and I mean AGGRESSIVELY enforced by the city.
2) There is the Underhill lot on Channing and College which is open to the public but it is relatively expensive too if parking there for all or most of the day (it's $1/first hour, $2/hour after).
3) The best option is the few reasonably priced metered parking spots that are along Haste and Dwight. These spots are extremely unusual for Berkeley as they allow for up to 8 hours of parking at a $1 an hour (if I remember correctly). However, I have never gotten one of these super rare spots because there are very few of them and they are obviously in demand.
tl/dr; Berkeley is a very unfriendly city to drivers. Plan to bus, walk, and bike as much as you can while you live there.

Re: Boalt 1Ls taking questions
Thanks! How about if I end up paying for the annual pass? Will that guarantee me reasonable parking in one of the closeby lots (like underhill), or does parking just suck for everybody, including registered drivers?

Re: Boalt 1Ls taking questions
The permit is $344 per semester and you have to live outside a 2mi radius from the school: http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-arou ... adius=truedrumstickies wrote:Thanks! However, if you do get the permit you get to parks in the lot nearest the law school, which is like a 3-5 min walk from the lot.

Re: Boalt 1Ls taking questions
Any 1L's coming from the South Florida area? Just wondering what the transition has been like so far. Seems like an incredible place to go to school.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
