Advanced Legal Writing: Writing for the Court - Janet Brown (3 credits)
Legal Scholarship Workshop - McGinnis & Lindgren (3 credits)
Employment Law - Yuracko (3 credits)
Negotiation - Gandert (3 credits)
Maybe Advanced Legal Research - Bowman (2 credits)

Colloquial ConLaw is horrible unless you're actually a super law-geek. Like not a pretend one. You really just love thinking about the law and reading several long papers about it and thinking of creative questions for speakers on obscure ConLaw issues.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:Thoughts?

Also Legal Scholarship Workshop with Lindgren and MCGINNIS??? That's new. If it was just Lindgren I'd say it's an instant A+ But not sure with McGinnis.

Cool thanks for the info. Will taking everything above (including advanced research) spread me too thin as a 2L with journal? I'm trying to avoid the biggies like antitrust, admin, fedjur, etc. until next semester or later.Micdiddy wrote:Colloquial ConLaw is horrible unless you're actually a super law-geek. Glad to see you joining us. I got a studio on 606 W. Cornelia, I hear north part of Lakeview is decent and cheaper if that's your preference.Uncle Jack Kelly wrote:Hey! You the person talking about applying to clerkship this fall/after this semester? If you are, if recommend taking more black letter law classes that look/sound better.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:Cool thanks for the info. Sort of seconded. I loved colloquium--as a huge law geek--but it's definitely not for everyone. If that's you it's a good class, and if you impress Pfander he's a great clerkship rec.Micdiddy wrote:Colloquial ConLaw is horrible unless you're actually a super law-geek. Like not a pretend one. For us K-JD's, is it worth it to apply, esp. if we need $$$ to attend?

Depends. ~10% of the most recent class were K-JD. http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissions/profile/.
ETA: Peruse previous NU threads and you'll notice that sometimes NU admissions will condition your acceptance on working for a year and will give you a larger scholarship for it.

How the hell do people manage to do moot court and journal at the same time?

I don't know man. How did people manage to do 1L? Like seriously, looking back I have no idea how I tried that hard on anything.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:How the hell do people manage to do moot court and journal at the same time?
If you make the commitment, you'll probably get it done.

you spend less time on classes because you have one year under your belt and know how to work more efficiently/what works for you/what's necessary for you to be successful.Micdiddy wrote:I don't know man. Lots of people seem to stop reading for class almost entirely after 1L with few negative consequences for example. Journal (and typically moot court) also seem to be structured so that their obligations fade away during the crucial crunch time in the run-up to finals. It doesn't mean it doesn't suck-it ends up being very exhausting because there is simply no reprieve from the work. But the time gets made by doing very few of the things you spent your time doing 1L.

Who should I take Negotiation with? Agnew, Buth, or Gandert.

I think consensus is Gandert by a mile (bid a lot). I had Buth because another class conflicted with Gandert and she was great.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:Who should I take Negotiation with? Agnew, Buth, or Gandert.
Never heard of Agnew.

Can anyone tell me if Mergers, Acquisitions, and Industry Consolidation: A Case Study was taught well? The reviews online seemed generic.

Is a prereq required to take Evidence? I am trying to bid for Evidence ITA with Burns but it's saying I have not met the requisite for the class.

I think you have to bit ITA at least 1 point higher since it's a co-requisite.itsme123 wrote:Is a prereq required to take Evidence? I am trying to bid for Evidence ITA with Burns but it's saying I have not met the requisite for the class.

Re: Northwestern 1L/2L/3L/Grads Taking Questions and Challenges
does anyone happen to have a copy of the syllabus for Law, Advocacy, and Public Persuasion with DeSanto?
I took War and the First Amendment with him and I like him. I'm not a fan of public speaking, but I do want to get better. I'm hoping the syllabus might shed some light on what is required for the course.
Also, thoughts on taking evidence to prep for the bar? Would it even be helpful if it's taught by Hughes?
