Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Don't ask for an unreasonable amount if you're not actually qualified to get it; at least that was the advice on here back when I was applying. GULC prob doesn't care what WUSTL is offering, but Cornell will definitely help. Come up with a reason why you need the money, craft a thoughtful paragraph, and start the negotiation the way you'd negotiate for anything else in life. Ask for more than you're hoping to settle on but not so much that you look like you don't know what you're doing. FWIW, full scholarships are virtually unheard of at GULC (I know of exactly one, and this person is very much an exception to every rule), so don't ask for that unless you're Harvard material, in which case you should go somewhere else anyway.call-me-bubbles wrote:usn26 wrote:What other offers do you have in hand? Can I use a school in the 30-40 ranking range which is near me? 173-176 LSAT, 3.4 - 3.7 LSAT. Have no other offers other than from that school, which gave me nearly full tuition.

Even at the low end of that range, you should've gotten something from comparable schools above and below. Did you apply to Vandy, Cornell, UVA, Nu etc.?Thelaw23 wrote:Can I use a school in the 30-40 ranking range which is near me? 173-176 LSAT, 3.4 - 3.7 LSAT. If you don't want to wait another application cycle, I guess you can try tonuse your full-ride offers and level with them with a nice version of "my numbers are good enough to get me in elsewhere with money next cycle. So we can do this dance next year and I'll probably go somewhere higher-ranked or you can offer me something now and lock me in"

Yeah, WL at Cornell and UVA, didn't apply to Vandy, waiting for NU.
And do you think that would come off alright? I can't go something along the line of, this school right next to me where I won't have to pay COL gave me nearly a full ride, can you please match as I know my stats are good enough to get into higher-ranked schools but I really want to go to GULC?
Edit: yeah what you're saying makes sense. Tell them I believe that I can get substantial scholarships in higher-ranked schools if apply next cycle, but if you give me a substantial scholarship now I will attend GULC.

I don't know if I endorse this approach at any level above a very subtle subtext.Thelaw23 wrote:Capitol_Idea wrote:Even at the low end of that range, you should've gotten something from comparable schools above and below. Question for my fellow GULCers. We all say/think the "gulk"/"gulker"/"gulky" pronunciation, right? Or is that just me?

If we're going phonetic here, it's pronounced ˈdʌmpstər ˈfaɪərusn26 wrote:Question for my fellow GULCers. We all say/think the "gulk"/"gulker"/"gulky" pronunciation, right? Or is that just me?

In the V20 range you tend to have enough numbers that you're safe, but in V5s associates are allowed (and encouraged!) to pelt any known GULC'ers with eggs.Gray wrote:oh come on it's not that bad.

ETA why would GULC's students have to worry about V5 culture anyway.
B. I didn't mean V5 lawyers are limited to only pelting GULC'ers from their own firm

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Do you guys mind sharing your debt at repayment?
LST has the fully financed debt at repayment for the class starting in Fall 2017 at just under $320,000. That doesn't seem right to me.
What will you owe? It looks like more than half the class pays sticker, but it's hard to know if that is all debt financed.

After 2L I'm at 110. There's a couple factors that will influence how much I pay 3L but I anticipate owing like 60k moreNpret wrote:Do you guys mind sharing your debt at repayment?

I like it here just fine, but that's neither here nor there. What should concern you is that of the 678 people who graduated from GULC in 2015, only 456 (67.3%) were known to be employed in long-term, full-time legal jobs ten months after graduation. And if you're paying sticker, like 51% of the students do, you'll have about $320K in debt upon graduation.call-me-bubbles wrote:This is the Internet (and TLS at that), so I can't tell if you guys are being serious or sarcastic in shitting on Georgetown, despite the fact that it's your own school. But also GULC has a number of institutional problems that don't directly affect students who aren't paying attention (a hiring and salary policy that largely encourages useless admin to stay and good staff to leave, critical understaffing in key areas like the registrar, too many/overpaid VPs, tenured professors have little/no accountability for the various projects that they drum up student support for and then abandon when it starts boring them, and an increasing reliance on adjuncts to teach while providing little support for them so students can benefit from these outside connections).
Not sure how much of this is GULc specific or general law school uselessness

Paid sticker because I did not TLS before going to law school, but had savings and a job to whittle down costs.Npret wrote:Do you guys mind sharing your debt at repayment?
