All things being equal, you probably want a harder test so you have more of a chance to separate yourself. I, for one, always wanted a closed book because 1) took crap notes and 2) trusted my memory was better than most of my classmates.

You're going to hear a lot of banter after exams about how unpredictable grading is because your grade really has nothing to do with how well you did. Its only how well you did relative to your peers. A lot of people seem to have trouble grasping that.
One of my profs alluded to that very thing when I visited his office hours. He said everyone will gripe about how grades are random, the professor is an unfair jerk, etc., etc...when the only test in the class that they've seen is their own.

This is why boshkoff class has set up a post exam exchange for my contracts class. So people can see exactly what they were up against haha.

But yeah im expecting insane things from shreves curve, his word limits are so short and his test are really easy. Its probably one mistake and you are screwed

He used two of my answers as the model answer for the question and I still only got a B+. Fall 2006, look it up. ;) Mistake of identity or something, I think.

I probably read it then haha.
That makes sense, the difference between a B+ and an A is probably really nothing

Yeah i agree, i just have no idea how he is really going to grade it. Seems like everyone thought it was pretty straight forward too.

Short answer should separate the tests quite a bit, since that's the most objective thing he could grade by far and should cause the biggest disparity from test to test. Thankfully I felt really good about 9 out of my 10 answers.

I hope you are right though, cuz i felt good about them.

It was easy for me too, but you either know it or you don't, there have to be people who struggled with it. It does bother me how happy everyone is about that test, the curve is going to be tough, but since I'm happy with my own performance and don't feel like I could have done significantly better with additional prep, I'll just be fine with whatever result I get.

0L who's applying to IUB checking in-

Are you guys happy with your decision to attend IUB? I figure having a full semester under your belt should give you a little more perspective than the first few months.

What's the Biggest/Most pleasant surprise about IUB?

What are some things you would change ?

Thanks

In three more days it will be a full semester :) If you come back in a few days Ill probably have more insight but here is just a quick run down.

I Really am satisfied with my choice. the profs are very good here, and I feel like that is one of the best aspects of the school. I realy like the staff and hte profs in general are very approachable and helpful. Regardless of how grades or anything turn out,I feel like ive learned a lot this year.

Ive actually really liked bloomington, coming from CA i wasn't really sure what to expect but its really nice and a very fun place to live.

THe one thing i would change is living closer to campus now that it is getting so cold haha.

Obviously the job market stuff is pretty scary wherever one attends, so that is always a concern at any school really.

Scott's Crim Law final was easy too.

I'm glad I came to IUB too. It's an amazing school and I'm really proud to be a part of it.

In fact, if I manage to not fail out after this semester, I'm entirely considering attempting to start up a law revue group to help promote the school on youtube.

Last year the Scholly requirement for me at least was to stay above median (which is around 3.2). I would ask them though, cuz I thought they just came out and said it.

Did any of you current 1Ls (or older, I suppose) submit "Why Indiana" essays? Do you think it helped your admission at all? If one was to write one, anything in particular you think should be included that the admissions office would like?

I did not write a Why-IU, i was deferred and I sent in an LOCI which basically was a Why-IU, and while i know they appreciated the effort I dont think it helped it all, it really just came down to numbers and when spots opened up for me.

I would just focus on a particular issue or area that interests you and why IU would fit with that area.

So I've been told that grades come back one at time, but does anyone know when they normally start to come in? Im assuming its mid january, but thats really based on nothing but conjecture.

0L here. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts re: IUB's Office of Career and Professional Development. To what extent are they friendly and helpful?

Having benefited from a very helpful student services office as a grad student, I am keen to repeat the experience as a law student.

Thanks.

Has anyone really ascertained the reason why Indiana shot up some 13 places from 36 to 23? Was it a matter of the generous scholarship allotment (I just got a full ride for numbers not far above median) toward higher scoring students, thereby pushing up incoming class scores for the News&Review?

Just trying to figure out how Indiana places, whether it really is a peer school of those ranked around it (Notre Dame, Boston College, boston u). After all, Indiana seems to have the same problem as other midwest schools- in that it lacks a real big-law market.

Also, are law students eligible for discount basketball tickets? Huge college basketball fan. My mid-major undergraduate would give us undergrad students free tickets but seemed to charge our business students.

I'm only a 1L so I have only met with their office once (you aren't allowed by the ABA to meet with them until after Nov. 1st of your first year). However, my experience with them was great. Everyone in the office is very friendly and they are more than adequate in answering any questions I had.

I've also been to several of their presentations that they put on at the law school, and each one was helpful for me. The presentations that they put on this past semester that I can remember off the top of my head, includes a coverletter work shop, a resume work shop, a resume round table, and a public interest career session.

I honestly haven't heard anyone have any problems with their office and would say that it is one of the better aspects to IU-B.

Well the huge donations were probably most of the reason, having that much extra cash to throw around makes a big difference. Plus IU was probably slightly underraked the year before, so Im guessing things will balance out to the higher 20's lower 30's next year. I think in reality most the school from 20-40 are all really the same.

Im not entirely sure on the basketball tickets, profs like to give out free tickets when they don't use them, and I think you can qualify for student tickets still (a lot of my friends have tickets so i assume so, but i could be totally wrong here).

I can't really speak to basketball tickets, b/c I have yet to go to a game. However, when I went to a football game, you have to pay for the tickets. You do get a discounted student ticket rate though.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
