I think I wore jeans one day and khaki slacks the other, with a t-shirt both days. Nobody worth caring about will care what you're wearing.

Re: NYU 1Ls taking questions
Hey guys, thanks so much for answering questions.
I'm pretty much deciding between NYU and U of Toronto. Since I'm Canadian, UofT would be much cheaper for me, but I get the feeling that NYU would be better for international law. It'll all come down to whether or not I'll be able to afford NYU. Did you find that the financial aid provided was adequate? Did you receive any bursaries? How much financial aid can I reasonably expect to receive considering that only one of my parents is employed, making around 70k a year? I won't be eligible for government loans since I'm an international student. Any insight is much appreciated!

It's really gonna depend primarily on merit. Need-based aid is secondary to merit-based.bettinax wrote:Hey guys, thanks so much for answering questions.

Did anyone attend the Los Angeles admitted students/alumni reception last year? I plan on going to ASW but this event sounds kinda cool.

Re: NYU 1Ls taking questions
Do any current students have thoughts about the relatively new pro bono requirement for prospective bar-takers in NY? Do the 50 hours feel onerous? Does the school help students plan to meet the quota? How many hours does your average semester-long clinic net you?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: NYU 1Ls taking questions
Pro bono work at 1L summer jobs counts, and since basically everyone works at a non-profit after 1L, the new requirement is basically irrelevant.Swimp wrote:Do any current students have thoughts about the relatively new pro bono requirement for prospective bar-takers in NY? not an issue at all. If you end up getting a non/public interest job in the first summer, just join a group during 2L and 3L and you'll hit it pretty easily.Swimp wrote:Do any current students have thoughts about the relatively new pro bono requirement for prospective bar-takers in NY? Do you happen to know how the PI kids from your class are doing in terms of lining up positions for after graduation? Do most seem optimistic about their prospects?forza wrote:3L here, totally maxing and relaxing. Happy to jump in and answer any law firm-related or clerkship questions.

Re: NYU 1Ls taking questions
I'm interested in this as well. I know NYU Law has a PI-selection bent, which is great from a top law school. Specifically, what are some of the kinds of PI jobs that NYU Law grads that choose to go that route end up taking?spaceman82 wrote:Do you happen to know how the PI kids from your class are doing in terms of lining up positions for after graduation? Can anyone recommend hotels for ASD? I've never been to NYC and am...overwhelmed...looking at everything online.

its a website that looks shady (no prices etc) but it has all the wholesale prices and a price guarantee (ie commit now and price goes down and they will credit you). You tell them how much you want to spend and the date and if there is anything in that range your golden.
Only catch its of the nicer hotels in NYC so i think lowest is 200$

Is anyone here familiar with Rapid Realty? A lot of apartments in BK that match my criteria are listed by them on Naked Apartments and their website seems to be legit. Has anyone worked with them before?

Sure. Though, to be fair, rental brokers in NYC are pretty much all sub-moronic criminals, so Rapid might not be too bad, relatively speaking.ph5354a wrote:Swimp wrote:http://www.yelp.com/biz/rapid-realty-brooklynph5354a wrote:Is anyone here familiar with Rapid Realty? Re: NYU 1Ls taking questions
I've known a lot of people who've used Rapid. The stories have been varied. They're definitely not a completely fly by night enterprise or anything but it does seem like a pretty shitty, high-volume/low-quality kind of agency. I wouldn't avoid them completely but also would take anything they say with a grain of salt and don't give them any money until you've put pen to paper and got keys in hand.Swimp wrote:Sure. If you need a broker, go through Corcoran. You won't love it but you won't get screwed. Citihabitats blows and I think trying anything non-mainstream is generally a bad idea if your not from the city/have prior experience.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
