Re: Texas Class of 2017
Oh, go to sleep? Just go to sleep? Why don't I strap on my sleep helmet and squeeze down into a sleep cannon and fire off into dream land, where sleep grows on little sleepies?!
Seriously, there's no chance my brain lets me fall asleep before like 3am tonight.

TWO MORE TO GO!
Notbad.jpg. I feel like I wrote a solidly mediocre exam. Now I'm never going to think about that exam for the rest of the year, because if I do, I'm going to realize I missed some stuff and feel bad about it.
Time to self-medicate!

That moment when you start taking public service jobs more seriously in the apprehension that your grades are on par with how well you felt you did on your first exam.

Everything is going fairly well...
But I want to take an hour to punch myself in the nuts for going to law school and taking a property class.
I don't have an hour to do that.

You're practically guaranteed to have at least one prof turn in grades at the deadline, which is 1/9, if not later. (ETA: I don't mean the deadline is later, I mean there are some profs who will miss the deadline)cannibal ox wrote:Oh fuck. Hey fam, pardon the 0L creeping here, but I've got a question I think 1+Ls could help with... are any of you pursuing dual degrees, and if so, do you expect it to affect your employment outcome? I'm considering a MGPS (w/ energy specialization) from the LBJ school (3 year JD/MGPS program begins this fall), but I'm concerned that biglaw will look down on this.

What's an MGPS and why do you want that degree/what do you want to do with it?whosinthehousejc wrote:Hey fam, pardon the 0L creeping here, but I've got a question I think 1+Ls could help with... are any of you pursuing dual degrees, and if so, do you expect it to affect your employment outcome? Same as Zuck. What are your goals? I don't really know anyone going after a dual degree, but unless it is for a very specific need then I personally wouldn't do it. Taking more classes that can affect your GPA (possibly not in a good way) and possibly spending even more money? Seems like the costs would outweigh the benefits.

Re: Texas Class of 2017
I don't have a problem with doing a dual degree if it's three years for the whole program and it doesn't significantly add to the cost. Nobody you interview with would be able to say with a straight face that law school needs to be three years, in its current format. You'll be able to come up with a sufficient excuse (e.g. didn't want to waste a year of my life and studied something interesting instead of taking like "space exploration and the law") and I doubt many would look negatively on it. If it's something that gives you some sort of technical background in energy, might even be some kind of boost in TX, but I wouldn't count on it.
The LBJ program sounds pretty neat. I was quite disappointed they are not letting current 1Ls join the dual JD/MPA three year program (which seems very silly); I would have done it for sure.
Either way, a dual degree like this should not factor into your school decision. If you want to be something other than a lawyer, don't go to law school. If you want to be a lawyer and this is another notch on your resume in something you're interested in and it doesn't cost you much of anything, then knock yourself out.

Anyone else find in-house corporate applications unbearable?
I'm plowing through about 40-50 or so, and it's just miserable, but the odd part is I've gotten quite a good response from the few I've applied to so far, which is odd considering TLS consensus is looking for in-house positions is a wash, which means I basically have to do them because you gotta stick with the hot hand.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.
