Seriously. Would it have killed them to just freeze tuition? An almost 5% increase is a bit of a slap in the face.wtrc wrote:Wow at another significant tuition and cost increase. With the explosion of student debt and the legal market job opportunities declining, glad to see that Harvard University is using that 33 billion endowment to keep costs affordable.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
Yeah, that tuition increase
Not to be a downer, but I've been doing some research on recent tuition/COA increases to see if the 3.5% increase that's the default in the GULC debt calculator is reasonable for HLS and here's the data I've found...
2008-2009 to 2009-2010: 5.78% increase in tuition, 4.14% increase in total COA
2009-2010 to 2010-2011: 3.53% increase in tuition, 3.24% increase in total COA
2010-2011 to 2011-2012: 4.73% increase in tuition, 3.57% increase in total COA
2011-2012 to 2012-2013: 4.94% increase in tuition, 4.41% increase in total COA
2012-2013 to 2013-2014: 4.80% increase in tuition, 3.83% increase in total COA
2013-2014 to 2014-2015: 4.78% increase in tuition, 4.07% increase in total COA
Average year-over-year increases between 2008-2009 and 2014-2015: 4.76% for tuition, 3.87% for COA
If things continue increasing at that rate (3.87% year-over-year for COA), total COA -- not including interest on loans -- will pass 90K/year in the 2017-2018 school year and will pass 100K/year in the 2020-2021 school year.

For March ASWers: I'm staying at the Marriott Cambridge, about two miles away from HLS, Fri Sat Sunday. I got a very very good deal and if anyone wants to split it or for more details, PM me. I'm a dude in my mid 20's.

I'm at the Sheraton, which is pricier, but convenient.wtrc wrote:For March ASWers: I'm staying at the Marriott Cambridge, about two miles away from HLS, Fri Sat Sunday. I got a very very good deal and if anyone wants to split it or for more details, PM me. I'm a dude in my mid 20's.

This is probably a dumb question, but are we supposed to bring nice stuff to wear to ASW?

As one of the current students who will be showing you around during ASW, if anyone wears a suit I will forcibly remove one of either you or your suit.

On a related note, if anyone will be in Cambridge Thursday evening before ASW I'll provide the top secret Bar Review location.

Speaking of housing, does anybody know how competitive it is to get on-campus housing? How many people apply for how many spots?almondjoy wrote:Yeah I definitely got excited for a second hahaTheMostDangerousLG wrote:Did everyone just receive the email saying the HLS housing app is now open? +1 Given their need only aid policy it's a huge FU to the (already shrinking) middle class.cotiger wrote:Seriously. Would it have killed them to just freeze tuition? I remember reading somewhere that there is no deadline and the reward we get now is only a preliminary number.residentemma wrote:I got mine about a week and a half later (in TN)
