Greenwich Village/West Village is one of the nicest/coolest parts of NYC. If you don't find it attractive, I can't imagine any urban environment that you would.lawschool22 wrote:Just a different kind of attractivecotiger wrote:Have you visited in the winter? GV is nice. I agree. I also agree with cotiger that winters can make many places look shitty once you start getting all that black snow piled up everywhere, and salt residue coats every surface. But that plagues most any city that gets snow, so I won't knock NYU for itHumbert Humbert wrote:Greenwich Village/West Village is one of the nicest/coolest parts of NYC. Also just to be clear regarding the poll: if you haven't received an offer, don't vote yet. I would like the $0 option to represent people who know that they have in fact received nothing. Thanks!

LOL. Do you live in NYC? Do you use your feet for transport? Do you have a particular affinity for attempting (and failing) to hop around the massive six-inch deep (minimum) slush puddles engulfing every corner? Do you particularly enjoy looking at massive black and yellow colored snow-ice piles and excessive amounts of accumulated trash due to the inability for trucks to pick it up?Humbert Humbert wrote:Greenwich Village/West Village is one of the nicest/coolest parts of NYC. I love NYC. I work in GV, right next to NYU. GV is great! But anyone who doesn't think the past few weeks have been disgusting is crazy. And it happens every year. NY has a million things going for it. Attractiveness in the winter is not one of them.
There's a reason LS22 picked pictures from the summer. (And how is the Astor/NYU stop so bright and clean?? I WANT.)

Yeah, definitely not knocking NYU for it. Overall, it has one of the best (if not the best) locations of any law school in the country. And WSP in the summer is slammin'.lawschool22 wrote: I agree. One thing that is uniquely bad about NYC winters, though, is that for whatever reason the drainage system doesn't work in the winter, so whenever it snows (and also when it rains) you get these huge, nearly-impassable slush pools at every corner. It makes walking around super difficult/annoying/potentially wet and frigid. I've never seen a problem with that in Boston or Chicago, so I'm not sure exactly what causes it..

Haha you are right about urban winters. But now I'm on a mission to find nice winter pictures of GVcotiger wrote: There's a reason LS22 picked pictures from the summer. (And how is the Astor/NYU stop so bright and clean?? I WANT.)

People need to man the fuck up with the winters. This winter has been pretty annoying, but the previous winters haven't been this bad. Getting around the puddles just requires some strategic walking. I've gotten used to it now. Also, have shitty winter boots at the ready.

The poll's looking very bimodal right now. Either a LOT of money, or no money...
How long was NYU's turnaround for getting an award letter ready? Can't wait to see what the deal is.

Yes, I do. Obviously winter sucks - it sucks everywhere. A lot of places much more so than New York. No major urban city is "attractive" in the winter, in an objective sense. If LS22's original "goal is to show people that NYU is an attractive school", then I'm not sure why this digression about Greenwich Village's "attractiveness" is limited to its appearance during 3 months of the year.

SF, LA, Denver, Miami. Major cities, quite attractive winters.Humbert Humbert wrote: Yes, I do. Obviously winter sucks - it sucks everywhere. A lot of places much more so than New York. He's not wrong to post summer pictures.. of course you're going to choose the nicest pictures! But it just sounded funny to me to hear about how attractive the area is when I compared it to what I actually experience.
C'mon dude. Winter in NYC is gross. Honestly, the puddles are pretty unacceptable. No other city that I've been to has that problem. There's no faux-tough "manning up" that needs to happen. I'm just calling out something that's uniquely crummy as being uniquely crummy.Theopliske8711 wrote:People need to man the fuck up with the winters. If you absolutely have to have nice winters, don't live in NYC. That said, they're not so bad, especially compared to a place like Chicago. I love NYC, but that doesn't mean I can't also acknowledge that the weather and physical attractiveness of the place leaves much to be desired.

This winter has really sucked. I remember it snowing like one time last year. This year it snows every couple days, and it is cold as fuck.

Oh hey, for all you scholarship people. Don't forget to update your entry in the NYU spreadsheet w/ your award (or lack of one). I have the link in page one of this thread.

I think the full-tuition ones are just the Vandies, and $0 might be people who just haven't heard yet (thanks LS22 for that clarification)?paglababa wrote:The poll's looking very bimodal right now. Either a LOT of money, or no money...

Also, re: turnaround, I submitted my forms at the very beginning of Jan and still haven't heard anything!

Does anyone know (based on previous years) how willing NYU typically is to negotiate scholarship $?

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - New Photos in OP!
Would any of you with >$50k scholarships be willing to PM me your stats, other softs, and scholly amount? I'm trying to figure out what sort of room I might have as far as negotiations are concerned.
Or alternatively update the spreadsheet if you would rather not PM.
Thanks!

Has anyone found any data on how many invites go out a year and how many finalists ultimately receive the scholarship? I can't seem to find anything, even anecdotal. Much more info on the AnBryce in comparison...
