Has anyone appealed a second time? My NYU offer is higher than my CLS one, but I'd already appealed CLS using solely need-based aid from another school by the time I got the NYU offer. CLS bested the need-based aid (barely) but still came in at less than NYU.

Thoughts/reflections would be greatly appreciated! (PMs totally legit if folks are more comfortable with that)

I haven't done this, but I definitely would if I had any ammo. There is no harm in trying to respectfully increase your aid, and LOTS to gain.

The worst thing they will do is say they don't consider multiple scholarship adjustments. Go for it.

Looool, I literally just saw her at Berkeley a week and a half ago (as I'm sure many ITT did as well) where she spoke to us about how she's basically Berkeley/California for life and how we should totes be Berkeley students. They probably... should not have had her speak at the ASW if she was up for candidacy to be a dean at a rival school in a process that would become public before this admissions cycle is even over.

Unfortunately, I distinctly remember thinking she was a bad public speaker and not a professor I'd want... but I'm sure she is a lovely individual?
eta: My standards are unreasonably high because I felt personally romanced by Dean Morrison over at NYU. May or may not have an indecent secret crush.

Columbia is almost thrice as wealthy as Berkeley.

I'd suggest calling them - I did, and they were able to give me a timeline pretty quickly.

Hahaha, this is actually hilarious. I remember thinking "wow, this woman really loves California." Since she was in the running to become permanent dean at Berkeley, I wonder if they told her they were choosing someone else or whether she left on her own.

Berkeley was unwilling to offer her matching would be my guess.
I just assumed that was how everyone in California talked about California.

I called Monday, she said I'd hear in a week, I heard this morning.

About 15 minutes ago I actually got an email about missing forms from the finaid office...coincidence?
I'll call tomorrow to try and clear it up, obviously, but I think they've identified us on TLS and are monitoring our activity. So, just so you know financial aid office, I require a modest Butler sized award if you want to lock down my stats for this year...talk to you later!

Just got my award letter. It's enough that I don't feel too terrible about giving up NYU but it's still a sizable chunk lower (PM for details). I think i might appeal but I'm not very optimistic. Ugh I really wish CLS gave us the option of merit-aid only...

I just emailed them asking them to reconsider, and that I am willing to send in more documents to support my case that I should have more need aid. I literally only got loans.

My parents are planning on helping me out with tuition, etc. so I feel like I have a strong case. My sibling also goes to Columbia (and I have another sibling in college in NY). I really can't imagine them expecting my parents to pay more than 100k/year on tuition alone - let alone housing, food and books, etc.

what's this business about tuition being 100k a year?
also I don't see how your parents helping you pay for law school would boost your case for need grants.

ETA: oh, you mean 100k when adding your siblings tuition costs.

I mean if you are telling them "my parents are helping pay tuition" isn't that kind of the opposite thing they'd want to hear when looking to give out Need-Based Aid? It just seems if they have no problem telling applicants who are paying for 100% of the cost on their own then they wouldn't have any problem not giving a scholarship to someone who isn't paying 100% of the cost. Just curious if I am understanding this right.
