Yeah I'm mainly wondering what the appropriate amount of waiting time is. I'm thinking at least a few weeks, possibly after the first deposit deadline.lawschool22 wrote:Not yet. Waiting on some others to come back first.drawstring wrote:Anyone initiated a second round of negotiation yet?

Doesn't Duke require us to withdraw all other admitted applications once we deposit?gta wrote:Anyone think I'll have luck negotiating after the deposit deadline on the 25th?

Why don't you love me, Duke? I thought today would be the day I'd hear back. I've been stating at my phone waiting for that led indicator all day.Chekhov'sGun wrote:Just received a 9k scholarship increase! Pretty much seals the deal for me. Hope to see lots of you in Durham this fall.

HELLO ALL. Jumping on this bandwagon all of a sudden. Disappointing financial aid news at another school that shall remain unnamed *cough*Berkeleydamnyou*cough* means I'm suddenly quite likely to end up in Durham this fall! Which is kind of surreal, but awesome. I actually just got back from Duke and it is BEAUUUUUUTIFUL. And everyone is so nice. And down to earth.
Dukeeeeeeee.
Dukeeeeeeee.

Has anyone received their ASW travel stipend yet, or have an idea of when to expect those?

Re: Duke Class of 2017
So this is a little late, but I've officially sent in my deposit for the JD/LLM program!!
For those interested, scholarship negotiation went like this:
2/27: Submitted scholly application
3/11: Scholarship offer sent (took about 4 days to receive), combination Dean's scholarship and dual degree grant.
3/21: Emailed Dean Hoye re renegotiation and 4/11 deposit deadline
Email basically goes like this: Duke is my top choice, but with in-state and $ at UVA (plus the cost of the LLM summers at Duke), the difference in three-year debt is holding me back. Match UVA's three-year debt and I will enroll immediately.
3/24: Dean Hoye acknowledges email
4/4: (via email and snail mail) New scholarship letter, total of $17,000 more than initial offer. Makes COA still slightly more than UVA, but close enough.
Emailing to renegotiate really can work!
Also, re the poll, living in Garrett West, just signed the lease.

I have been wondering the same thing...hope it didn't get "lost in the mail". At this point they could just credit it to my tuition bill lolgta wrote:Has anyone received their ASW travel stipend yet, or have an idea of when to expect those?

Re: Duke Class of 2017
Sending in my seat deposit shortly! I also negotiated for anyone interested:
3/18 - scholarship decision mailed (didn't get it till a few days later because I was out of town)
4/2 - sent negotiation email with the typical plea (I had 2 higher offers from peer schools)
4/7 - received confirmation they'd gotten my email and that they noted the upcoming NU deadline so they'd get back to me quickly
4/8 - ^they obviously weren't kidding, got my updated offer ($24K increase from initial offer)
Still wasn't a quite match of what the other schools offered but because of my goals and personal reasons I'm willing to pay a bit more for Duke.

Re: Duke Class of 2017
I was able to negotiate by emailing the office in a respectful manner and laying out the reasons I had for asking for an increase. I didn't have a peer school offer to negotiate with...what helped is that I was able to convey both through my email (and honestly throughout my application) that Duke was my first choice. I actually got more than what I asked for (makes me wish I asked for more than the 10+increase I originally asked for, but let me not get greedy here!) Hope this helps in some way.

I attempted to negotiate and was denied. I used multiple offers, including two T20 full-rides and a lower T-14 offer at a higher amount, but with a roughly equal COA to Duke.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
