Re: Texas Class of 2017
I applied and received a Law Preview scholarship. I'll attend the one in Houston which means that I'll have to quit my job a week sooner than planned. Who knows, it could be beneficial *Kanye shrug*.
To return to the now dead housing topic; I'm in Austin for this weekend (and will probably return in a few weeks) and I am having a really hard time trying to find anything reasonably priced (and not shitty) near campus. Apartment prices have skyrocketed since I graduated undergrad a few years ago. I last lived on Parmer and I once lived on Wm. Cannon, but I am trying to get closer this time. Even Riverside has gotten pricey. Any suggestions?
FYI, the apartment locators I've found all suck.

Re: Texas Class of 2017
Welcome incoming victims, er, I mean, 1Ls
In all seriousness, Texas is the best school to attend in the country as far as I'm concerned...good choice.
I am a 3L at UT looking for a roommate for at least the upcoming school year. It's a little less than 20 minutes to walk to the law school and two minutes from a bus stop that goes through West Campus and then does a look starting with the south of campus. The walking route is very safe and well-lit along Dean Keeton, and I have walked it many times at 2 in the morning after working late at the law school. The location is in northwest West Campus, with very easy access (sometimes good short cuts) to Lamar, Mo-Pac, I-35, the Triangle, and downtown (great for getting to downtown fast for law firm receptions or bar reviews, even during rush hour). Generally very quiet area despite frats/sororities in the area (they don't make much noise, and are located at least a block away each).
The apartment comes fully furnished and includes a parking spot, washer/drier, washing machine, and a separate bathroom. The room itself comes with some minimal furniture. Whole apartment has wooden shutters on the windows, great at keeping out sun and heat if desired. Rent is $750/month and includes Internet and all utilities and water and etc. (excepting an excessive electricity use beyond $90/mo for the apartment, which is rare). Apartment was repainted and improved just a few years ago. My parents are the landlords and are very easy to deal with. Security deposit is $500. Pictures available upon request.
Of course, the best part is getting a 3L roommate who can give you good advice about law school and who has an outline library right in the living room for you to use at your leisure
If interested, please PM me for pictures. No pets, no smoking, no people that want to throw a wild party in the apartment every week, no people that are unable to clean up after themselves. Can be male or female (I am male).

So a few minutes ago I was looking at my CASH page and it was only showing my grant information. Is anyone else having this issue, not showing the scholarship?

Mine seems unchanged, but all I have in the first place is the in-state ED housing stipend under "other resources".

On the "CASH:Check Aid Status" page. Maybe halfway down, it says Financial Aid Shopping Sheet.
It has my grant amount and lists my scholarship under "other scholarships you may use".

Just an FYI, admissions sent out another update email yesterday, but it went to my spam folder on Gmail. If you didn't get it, that's probably why.
Looks like there is an "Annual Fajita Fest" during orientation. I can deal.

Enjoy fajita fest because it's the best free party they're ever going to throw for you.Will_McAvoy wrote:Just an FYI, admissions sent out another update email yesterday, but it went to my spam folder on Gmail. If you didn't get it, that's probably why.

I hope Pizza Hut Pizza gets you excited, because that's what the majority of your free meals will be.Will_McAvoy wrote:That makes me both excited and pretty not excited.WokeUpInACar wrote:Enjoy fajita fest because it's the best free party they're ever going to throw for you.Will_McAvoy wrote:Just an FYI, admissions sent out another update email yesterday, but it went to my spam folder on Gmail. Also, lol@paying 10s of thousands of dollars in tuition and being given anything "for free." Then again I don't really want to have to pay more to the law school just to subsidize my Torchy's addiction. I do that just fine on my own, thank you.

I don't understand how Pizza Hut is still a thing. They have both the worst and most expensive pizza of all the national chains.
I mean, I'll still eat it, but come on. At least get Dominos.

LOL at Dominos being better than Pizza Hut. Austin's Pizza is my favorite in the area that will actually deliver.
10s of thosuands of dollars will be paid back later. Right now it feels free
EDIT: Also when is the Fajita thing? I didn't get that email, but would still like to attend

Dude. Dominos KILLS PH.
There is a new pizza place coming to Austin that I can't talk about here without outing myself, but it will change your life. I'll post on FB.

I thought the same thing, but then discovered its humanly impossible to do so more than once a week (and that's probably being generous).Will_McAvoy wrote:I mean, I'll still eat it
Breaks my heart every time I go to a lunch time event and I see those stupid boxes full of that stupid pizza.

Oh I thought you were making some kind of Conan O'Brien reference that went over my head.

A lot of events get Austin's pizza, which I think is also shitty. But I've never gotten it warm, even when I was early.

I can't wait for us to get a month into school and all you FAT CATS getting sick of Pizza Hut. Meanwhile, I'm shoving slices in my backpack for dinner for the week and literally saving myself TENS of dollars on student loans. Hah HAH!

Re: Texas Class of 2017
Considering my job gives me free food 3 days out of the week right now, and they always send me home with about 3 boxes of donuts, 2 boxes of pizza, and 2 boxes of cinnapies every week, I must disagree. Free food can be so bad it isn't worth it. Usually I just take it and give it to someone in need.cannibal ox wrote:I can't wait for us to get a month into school and all you FAT CATS getting sick of Pizza Hut.
