My advice is to try anyway. It will work for some, but not others.Otunga wrote:How has negotiation been with UVA? I recall reading something on TLS about Anne Richard replying to a negotiation request over the phone and stating an increase wasn't happening, or something along those lines.

I hope this isn't the case. As much as I love UVA, I won't be able to justify attending with my current offer.okaygo wrote:My advice is to try anyway. For housing, I'm thinking of the Pavilion. It's not as cheap as some other options, but the rooms are nice and it's such a short walk that I think it is worth paying for 1L year.

Is anyone thinking of living in University Place? I can't tell if it is mostly for undergrads or not. But it's insanely inexpensive compared to a lot of the other places, plus it has its own shuttle and tons of amenities.

I was looking at that place and then did a bit more digging, and found lots of negative reviews saying that the shuttle doesn't run as promised, it's not well maintained, etc. That being said, those are just online reviews, so take 'em with some salt.monsterman wrote:Is anyone thinking of living in University Place? I ended up deciding on a place that is definitely in undergrad territory, but have heard great things about the building and management, so I figure it's worth a shot, at least for the first year...

Re: UVA Class of 2017
So, handy info for those of y'all who have pets:
The Pavilion is pet-friendly (with breed/weight restrictions) but it doesn't say so on the website (or if it does, it's extremely well-hidden). $200 non-refundable pet deposit, $20/month pet rent.
I'm leaning toward UVA (not entirely certain but it's the likeliest outcome), but my pup is coming with me, so that limits my housing options. I'm thinking either Pavilion with a roommate (and in which case, if anybody's interested in having an entertaining 12-lb furball as a third roommate, let me know
), or a 1-bedroom further out so that he gets lots of grassy areas.

Hm, yeah it all sounds almost too good to be true. Not quite sure yet if I want to save money to live a few miles away, either. What place did you decide on?rachellen wrote:I was looking at that place and then did a bit more digging, and found lots of negative reviews saying that the shuttle doesn't run as promised, it's not well maintained, etc. That being said, those are just online reviews, so take 'em with some salt.monsterman wrote:Is anyone thinking of living in University Place? Great reviews, apparently management is awesome and the building itself is great... Only negative is the proximity of several frat houses. I can deal with that though, and I requested an apartment on an upper floor, which should help with any noise issues.

Great! Let me know if you end up there; it'd be nice to know if any other law students are in the complex.monsterman wrote:Thanks! I'll be checking that out, as I just submitted my deposit.

Does anyone else feel like the class is going to be smaller than last years? There are not many on the Facebook group and many on that group have other options I'm sure.

I heard at the ASW that they were trying to reduce the class from 330 to 300.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
This is correct. UVA has been slowly reducing the size of the class over the last few years, and this year shouldn't be an exception. I imagine they won't go much lower than 300 after this year though.admiringatticus wrote:I heard at the ASW that they were trying to reduce the class from 330 to 300.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Regarding negotiating:
Had nearly 100k from low T-14 and 70k from Michigan. Richard replied with a big fat $0 for me. Still considering, but kind of hard to rationalize paying sticker with the other offers. Don't know whether being persistent and calling maybe weekly will help at all.
Anyone have any advice?

If you're not planning to attend at sticker, what's the worst that can happen? Obviously, I'd be respectful, but what do you have to lose?dempsey6 wrote:Regarding negotiating:

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Hey, if anyone is looking for housing, there is a great opportunity near UVA Law available. An apartment available in my complex, Arlington Court, literally right next to the law school.
It is a two bedroom for $1100 a month total. It is an individual owner who is responsive. Much better deal than Ivy Gardens and closer to the law school.
Message me if you are interested.
I am also a 2L at UVa Law if anyone else has questions about the school I could answer.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
I'm a 2L that lives in the closest possible apartment complex to UVA Law and it is really convenient. It is literally a 5 minute walk to my classes. See my previous post for more details.persia1921 wrote:Where is everyone planning on living?
I am in the midst of debating between living in walking distance or driving 5-10 min. It seems like the places a little further out are nice/ generally better quality, but walking would be convenient.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
