This. If SLS admits me then things are really going to get crazy. I'm thinking about starting the annual Rubies/Hamilton vs HYS thread so that we can all start discussing our options. I really have no idea what I'm going to do right now.HarvardHopeful wrote:This. I haven't received any scholarship, but I think the Ruby would be especially challenging because of the stipend.

Oh yeah, definitely. Not complaining at all; it's a great problem to have.Nonconsecutive wrote:Its a great place to be in though.kershka wrote:This. Does anyone know if the Doctoroff Program comes with any kind of scholarship?

Nothing I've read about the program suggests that it comes with one.lastsamurai wrote:Does anyone know if the Doctoroff Program comes with any kind of scholarship?

I've never been to Chicago and I feel like waiting for their accepted students weekend april 10-12 and then making my decision by the end of april is not enough time for me. I suck at making tough decisions, so I just booked a flight for the end of February!! Hopefully visiting twice will help me when its comes time to making my decision.
Nice! I also feel like visiting in April is cutting it close, especially since a lot of my other options have a deposit due April 1st. Let us know how it is!! Also, congrats on the Ruby and your other amazing options!

Has anyone started poking around living options? Not fully decided yet, like previous posters I'm torn between my Ruby and HLS/SLS but I have started reviewing living options in all these cities...

Yea I've been looking at Regents park and it looks like a palace compared to what you can get for the same price in Cambridge! The housing in Chicago is definitely superior to Cambridge.Gryffindor wrote:Has anyone started poking around living options? I was looking at regents as well and it looked phenomenal until I went and read some reviews on yelp. Sounds like they charge extra for many of the amenities... What other apts have you looked at?

The original Ruby email mentions a follow-up email containing more details, the scholarship acceptance form, etc. Anyone receive that yet? Just want to make sure I didn't miss it.

Great, thanks! I'm leaning heavily toward accepting the Ruby and calling it quits this cycle. I started to withdraw from some schools, but I'm too paranoid to withdraw everywhere without getting the packet. The paranoid part of me wants to make sure this is real first!Gryffindor wrote:Nada... they mentioned a packet as well so maybe once the packets arrive they will send an email?flippacious wrote:The original Ruby email mentions a follow-up email containing more details, the scholarship acceptance form, etc. Anyone receive that yet? To the discussion of housing-- I think Regents is still one of the nicest properties in Hype Park but it recently changed management which is what all the recent yelp reviews are about. People who lived there a few years back loved it but this new management isn't as nice. It still seems like a great option, however, especially considering the sheer number of law student who live there. And it's certainly better than a lot of similarly priced properties in Cambridge!

And one ring to rule them all...NORTHWESTERN! The moleskine notebook, so nice. If only it said "The University of Chicago Law School" instead of "Northwestern Law."drawstring wrote:The Ruby is an incredible offer. Are Rubys typically handed out all at once, or should we expect more offers to come out in the future?

Is anyone else having a hard time deciding between Harvard, or Yale, or Stanford (or a combo) and the Ruby? I'm debating starting a discussion on the topic.

There are several threads about this that one can read through. IMO its crazy to pass up that much money but everyone needs to make the decision for themselves. I would be interested to see how the discussion breaks down among people with differing levels of work experience. I know that, personally, 150K (or more) of debt means a lot more to me now than it did just a few years ago when I finished undergrad.Gryffindor wrote:Is anyone else having a hard time deciding between Harvard, or Yale, or Stanford (or a combo) and the Ruby? Re: Chicago Law Class of 2017
I agree. Having taken a few years off between UG and law school, I am pretty conscious of the debt. First off, I'm older, and when I graduate I want to start putting away money for a house, kids, life, etc. The Ruby opens up the opportunity to do that immediately, instead of putting my life on hold for a while. I think there's a huge value in that. There's also the fact that, for the past three years, I have been very conscious of my spending habits as I tried to save as much as possible to go toward law school. I imagine having crazy loans would hang over me in a similar way. I'm looking forward to being able to relax a bit. Thirdly, I'm going for biglaw, but if I end up absolutely hating it, the Ruby gives me the freedom to try to change jobs and not have to suck it up for the sake of loan payments. I like that.Come on Down wrote:There are several threads about this that one can read through. IMO its crazy to pass up that much money but everyone needs to make the decision for themselves. I have only been admitted to HLS, but I don't think I'd take Yale or Stanford over the Ruby either.
So Chicago...please email that form I can sign so I can make sure you won't take the Ruby away from me, and I can withdraw from everywhere else!!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
