A sandwich shop just across the gorge from the law school. Very good but also very overpriced.

Anyway, it's basically the perfect location for an apartment(unless you like going to bed early on the weekends) and the price is barely more expensive than a small room at Hughes. I just sent them an email.

Hi all! I got admitted last week and just received my financial aid decision. I don't have a better offer but for someone who wants to return to California I think I would need more than what they offered for me to consider attending. Has anyone had success negotiating with Cornell (with or without a better offer)? I know it's late in the game but I thought I'd ask! :)

I'm touring the apartment tomorrow at 3. If anyone is interested I can provide a description when I get back.

Congrats! Also from California, I would like to return but ultimately decided that overall biglaw prospects are most important to me, so I committed to Cornell. I'll just have to do really well to land biglaw in California.

Regarding negotiating, I was not able to get them to budge using big scholarships from USNWR #15-20 schools. It seems like they will only consider offers from the T14.

Not every T14. They didn't budge when I showed them my slightly higher offer from Georgetown.

They actually went a bit above my higher GTown offer on the second round of negotiations, scholarship negotiation can be so idiosyncratic/black boxy.

Anyone else get the Important notice for new JD students pdf via email? I'm wondering specifically about meal plans cause when I went through some of the stuff on the site, it said people were supposed to have signed up by May 1.

Any insight?

Ignore the May 1st deadline. You'll be fine if you want one.

I haven't read up on this yet. Do we need to actually visit for a physical or anything, or just obtain documents via fax/e-mail?

iirc you need to get a physical form filled out by a doctor and submit copy of vaccinations. you should get on that now since it ended up taking more time i thought it would.

You do not need a physical exam. I and many others left that page blank. This question comes up every year, someone calls Gannett, and the answer is always the same.

You do need to fill out the rest of the form and have a doctor sign it, though, if that's what toothbrush means. At least, that's what I did. If you're submitting official immunization records, I don't think you need a doctor to sign. I actually think I ended up doing both because I had official records for some, but not all, of my vaccinations. Just follow the instructions.

Thoughts on meal plans if you're in Hughes? Is it unlikely you'll cook much the first year? Thanks!

You'll have time to cook. I cooked 3 meals a day every day in the Hughes kitchen. It depends on how important it is to you.

I think around 12+ people had meal plans and 12+ people cooked, and a bunch of people ate out. During finals, I know some people just ordered all their meals to be delivered to Hughes. I still kept my cooking routine and did fine.

Personally, I didn't think the meal plan was worth it for the amount you get and for having to leave Hughes during the winter to trek to one of the dining halls for each meal. With that said, I know a few people with meal plans who don't seem to regret it, so ymmv.

I'm going to cook regardless of where I live. Cornell's food is good but they try too hard with their theme nights. I can feed myself well at half the price, and without being forced to suffer through Pho night every other evening(not an exaggeration). Cooking also means more money for restaurants/bars/alcohol as well.

I could eat pho everyday, but to not get super fat I try not to.

Anyone who's still looking for an apartment should PM me. I looked personally at the apartment near CTB that was advertised on the FB last week and it's a great deal for the price and location. If I could find 2 law students to live with I'd be willing to sign.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
