ETA: I will say the quality consistency for BO is suspect. Sometimes it's majestic, sometimes it's blah. I have a majestic six pack right now.cannibal ox wrote:Everyone rightfully always has such a boner for Oberon.

Fairly certain a school cannot force you to withdraw from WLs because the ABA says so but you might want to do a bit more research just to make sure. Maybe email admissions and ask?Kool-Aid wrote:Same here...does the LOI apply to wait lists? The LOI asks you only to affirm that "I have withdrawn my commitments to all other law schools." Riding a waitlist ~= a commitment; I'd save the email capital for future scholarship negotiations, personally!Kool-Aid wrote:Thanks!BigZuck wrote:Fairly certain a school cannot force you to withdraw from WLs because the ABA says so but you might want to do a bit more research just to make sure. I don't think a waitlist counts as a commitment, I'd still ride them out myself but you can always call and ask to be sure.
Had grad dinner last night at NXNW here in Austin. They brew their own beer. It was awesome.

Info regarding finaid for laptop purchase:
You have to purchase your laptop and essential accessories after August 1. Now we will cover additional things like warranty/insurance plans, an external hard drive, or a mouse, but we will not cover carrying cases, printers or software.
After you make your purchases, you must bring the receipts to the Student Financial Aid office, and myself or Shirley Cannon will add the amount to your budget which will take a few days to process.

Leaving Austin shortly...visited a ton of apartment complexes in different areas. We are waiting on a possible job offer for my wife that will influence where we stay (if she gets it), but we'll be back the first week of June to finalize a lease regardless.

lol - I sort of "went ugly early". A friend of mine from high school is renting me a room in her townhouse two miles north of the Law School. It's only maybe 12' x 12', but I obviously have access to the common areas in the house as well. I'm happy because I didn't want to take a chance with a random roommate, or foot the entire bill for even a one-bedroom myself. She's only charging me $425/month, and that includes utilities & internet.Kool-Aid wrote:

Mine's going really poorly, mostly because we're too nervous to pull the trigger on places in our price range without being able to see them in person. We'll probably "go ugly late."

That sounds like a nice set-up for that price.ScottRiqui wrote:lol - I sort of "went ugly early". Yeah I wouldn't be real comfortable doing that. Luckily we're only a 4 hour drive from Austin so it's not a big deal to go check out some places.Will_McAvoy wrote:Mine's going really poorly, mostly because we're too nervous to pull the trigger on places in our price range without being able to see them in person. At this point, I think we'll end up farther from campus than I initially wanted to be.

Hey everybody. Apologies for ducking in here. For anybody who is definitely attending Texas as a member of the class of 2017: I work for a startup that operates online case briefing and networking tools for law students. We're currently looking for a campus rep for the upcoming school year. The pay is good and the work is minimal. If you think you'd be interested in chatting with me about this, or talking with one of our current reps, shoot me a PM.

Apartment hunting in this city is so painful. Why is everything so expensive?

I would enjoy hearing you wax anecdote about your experience applying for internships/jobs. Maybe that isn't specific enough?nonprofit-prophet wrote:Congrats y'all. I just graduated this May. Feel free to ask me anything about law school/employment.

Yea, that's a bit broad. 1L jobs? OCI? Clerkships?camelthing wrote:I would enjoy hearing you wax anecdote about your experience applying for internships/jobs. 1L jobs... I've looked at a lot of stuff about OCI and all that, as that seems to be the focus on this site, but I haven't read much about 1L jobs outside of people posting vs threads in the employment thread.nonprofit-prophet wrote:Yea, that's a bit broad. 1L jobs? When does the application process usually begin and what types of jobs, besides the rare 1L SAs, pay the first year?

Can't submit apps until December 1st. From what I could tell for 1L SAs, Texas ties + highest grades or Female and minority students + high grades (top third). I know quite a few top 10 percenters that struck out for 1L SAs and it seemed to be mainly out of state guys. (One hiring partner at a big texas firm told me they rarely hire 1L guys).El Principe wrote:1L jobs... The school holds a public interest fair early in the spring and it seemed like most people got their jobs from that or from judicial internships.
As for pay, I think a few things with companies have pay/stipends, but most jobs are unpaid.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
